Ghost Exorciser: The Oust Fake Heiress Strikes

Chapter 585: Company

Chapter 585: Company

Without expectations... there was no disappointment. Philip silently looked at her.For some reason... her indifference hurt him far more than anger ever could.

His gaze unconsciously drifted toward her silver hair and calm silver eyes.

For just a brief moment... he saw a faint resemblance to their father.

’If only... if only we had found her when she was still a child... maybe none of this would’ve happened.’

Suddenly, Philip seemed to remember something. He looked at Lana curiously.

"That’s strange. According to your old records... your hair used to be black. So were your eyes."

He tilted his head. "What happened?"

Lana chuckled mischievously. "Good observation."

She pointed toward herself with a playful smile. "But..."

She leaned back against the chair. "Why would I tell you my little secret about why my hair turned silver?"

Philip pursed his lips once again. ’Stay calm... it’s perfectly normal for her to be sarcastic.’

He continuously reminded himself not to become upset. After composing himself, he continued speaking.

"As I was saying... I can’t stop treating Thessy as my sister."

He paused before speaking with complete seriousness.

"However... I promise I won’t blindly take her side anymore. If she ever hurts herself just to frame you again... I’ll personally punish her."

Lana merely gave a faint nod. However... she didn’t believe a single word. Not because Philip was lying.

But because... human bias rarely disappeared overnight. People often believed they were being fair.

Yet when the critical moment truly arrived... their emotions always won.

’One day... Thessy will cry. She’ll pretend to be the victim again. And Philip will forgive her. Just like before.’

Lana was almost certain that was how things would eventually unfold.

She wasn’t disappointed anymore. She simply expected it.

Philip noticed the disbelief hidden behind her calm expression.

However, he didn’t try to argue. Growing up in a wealthy family had taught him one important lesson.

Actions always mattered more than promises. After a brief silence, he spoke again.

"Even though I won’t ask you to return to the Peterson family..."

He smiled bitterly. "...because I understand we’ve probably traumatized you enough..."

He looked directly into her eyes. "I still hope you’ll come work at Peterson Corporation."

That proposal genuinely caught Lana off guard. She raised an eyebrow. "Work... at Peterson Corporation?"

Philip nodded. "It’s not just my idea. Mom and Dad want the same thing."

As those words left his mouth, yesterday night’s family discussion replayed vividly inside his mind.

The four of them... Conard, Philips, Mom, and Dad had spent hours discussing how they could compensate Lana.

Conard had been the first to speak. "Lana won’t willingly return home."

His tone back then had been calm but certain.

"So don’t force her. Instead... we’ll compensate her in every possible way."

After hours of discussion, they had finally reached one conclusion.

The best compensation they could offer was company shares.

Unfortunately, reality wasn’t that simple. Thessy currently controlled far too many internal matters.

Even worse... Peterson Corporation had a special clause written into its corporate regulations.

Any transfer of a significant amount of shares required approval from the board of directors.

The rule had originally been established to prevent anyone from secretly stealing control of the company through fraudulent transfers.

Ironically, that very same rule had now become a burden for the Peterson family themselves.

As a result, Conard came up with another plan. First... bring Lana into Peterson Corporation.

Conard would personally protect her.

Philip would intern alongside her to help her adapt to the company’s environment.

The two brothers would gradually help her climb the corporate ladder.

Once Lana had earned enough recognition and established herself within the company...the board members would naturally become more willing to approve the transfer of shares.

By then... she would possess everything.

Company shares. A high-ranking position. Practical experience. A generous monthly salary.

And enough achievements to earn everyone’s recognition.

Even without acknowledging her identity as a Peterson, holding a senior position inside the Peterson Corporation alone was enough to grant tremendous influence.

To countless people... that title alone represented power.

It was, objectively speaking, a very reasonable form of compensation.

However, Philip kept all those thoughts to himself.

’If I tell her we’re trying to compensate her... She’ll reject everything immediately.’

He knew Lana’s personality well enough now. And he was right.

Lana didn’t even hesitate. "I don’t want anything to do with your filthy Peterson Corporation."

There wasn’t the slightest hesitation in her voice. Only disdain.

In her previous life... getting a job at Peterson Corporation had once been her greatest dream.

The Peterson family had been wealthy for generations. Their influence stretched across countless industries.

When she had been struggling to survive, rejected by company after company, she would have gladly sacrificed almost anything just for the opportunity to enter Peterson Corporation.

Back then, it had seemed like paradise.

But now, after experiencing two lifetimes, after seeing their prejudice with her own eyes and after enduring their countless moments of favoritism... that dream had long since turned into nothing more than a joke.

To her, the prestigious Peterson Corporation no longer held even the slightest attraction.

Philip let out a weary sigh before murmuring, "I figured as much."

Lana pretended she hadn’t heard him at all. Her expression remained calm as she stared ahead, refusing to acknowledge the disappointment hidden beneath his voice.

Philip drew in a slow breath before trying again.

"If that’s not what you want... then how about this?" he asked gently. "We’ll transfer gold to you every single month."

Hearing those words, Lana simply waved a hand dismissively.

"See?" she replied with a small chuckle. "If this is about compensation, then honestly... I don’t want it."

She meant every word.

Even though she loved money and desperately wanted to skim as much wealth as possible from the Peterson family, this was different.

Accepting compensation from them made it feel as though an invisible bond would be formed between them, one that acknowledged them as family.

’Absolutely not.’
