Chapter 1049 - 1048: That’s Right, I Really Do Like Her

Chapter 1049 - 1048: That’s Right, I Really Do Like Her

Lin Hua heard the night before that he was going to send them off, so when she saw him return, she leaned against the bedhead and asked, "Did Xichen and the others go to Jiang City?"Jingyao nodded, sat on the edge of the bed, reached out to touch her head, and said gently, "I just saw them off and came back. Do you want to have breakfast downstairs or eat upstairs? I’ll stay with you."

Lin Hua smiled faintly, "Why do you suddenly seem so nice?"

Jingyao pinched her cheek, "Isn’t being good to the wife the most natural thing?"

Lin Hua looked at him, and Jingyao said lightly, "You go brush your teeth, I’ll go downstairs to get breakfast."

After saying that, he kissed her forehead again, got up, and went downstairs.

Lin Hua felt a bit dazed, touched her forehead, and it took her a while to slowly get up and head to the bathroom.

While she brushed her teeth, Jingyao came back up from downstairs. He was wearing a white shirt and black trousers, looking young and refreshing, holding a tray. Just then, Lin Hua’s phone rang with a WeChat message.

Lin Hua heard it and said, her voice muffled as she brushed her teeth, "Jingyao, could you check it for me? It’s probably from my agent. I asked her something earlier."

Jingyao placed the tray on the small tea table by the floor-to-ceiling window, picked up her phone, and saw it easily as it didn’t have a password.

Indeed, it was a message from the agent. He read it and told Lin Hua. Just as he was about to exit, the phone rang again. This time it was from Gu Anxi, that little rascal, with a simple line—

Already found Feng Sheng, rest assured.

Jingyao stared at that line for a long time, somewhat lost in thought, while the sound of water continued in the bathroom. After a while, Lin Hua’s voice came again, "Jingyao, what are you looking at?"

Jingyao snapped back to reality, "Oh, nothing, just come over for breakfast while it’s still hot."

He put the phone down without deleting the message and naturally went over to support his wife.

Lin Hua sat on the sofa, and Jingyao poured her some milk and handed her a sandwich with fried eggs, "Eat quickly, it’s not good when it’s cold."

She nodded, sipping the milk slowly, eating most of the sandwich before asking, "You’re not going to the office today?"

"I have lots to do, just came back to have breakfast with you," he said gently.

Lin Hua responded with an "oh" and continued eating breakfast.

Jingyao’s gaze seemed contemplative, and after a while, Lin Hua looked up, "What’s wrong?"

Jingyao smiled, "Nothing, just thinking about Zhou Yu’s baby. What should we give them? You women know best what other women want, could you decide?"

Lin Hua paused, "She’s having the baby? Have they reconciled?"

Jingyao smiled even deeper, "Sort of yes, sort of no."

She stared at him while nibbling on the sandwich, and Jingyao sighed, "You know Min Xin’s past; Zhou Yu has not yet moved past it. She seemed uninterested in finding anyone else, so they are somewhat stuck. It’s up to Min Xin to prove himself in the future."

Lin Hua gave him a sideways glance, "You’ve done quite a bit yourself over the years."

Jingyao chuckled, with a somewhat genteel yet roguish air, "Compared to him, I’m quite reserved. Besides, I don’t go for just anyone."

He believed he had many admirers, though true confidants were hard to find. As for past romances, those were insignificant since his previous wife had passed away.

After saying this, feeling a bit lacking in confidence, he smiled and pinched her face again, "Jingchuan is waiting downstairs, I need to go to a meeting, eat more at lunch, I’ll return early to have dinner with you."

Lin Hua mumbled in agreement.

He took a few steps towards the door, then turned back, "By the way, we should move back in a few days. You’ll feel more comfortable, and your mom can come over to be with you. If you miss the old lady here, you can visit for a few days."

Lin Hua smiled, "Alright."

Old Wang couldn’t resist, came back to kiss her cheek before leaving.

Lin Hua heard the car starting downstairs, knowing he had left, she slowly finished breakfast and was about to go downstairs when her phone rang. She went over to check, it was another message from Xiao Mei, she replied and was about to exit, but inadvertently saw Anxi’s message, about Feng Sheng, and noticed it was marked as read.

She felt a moment of detachment, then recalled Jingyao had looked at her phone earlier. Clearly, he had read this message but hadn’t said anything or asked. She also remembered his strange demeanor that morning—

So, he knew she knew Feng Sheng was still alive.

But, he didn’t mention it.

Lin Hua quietly stared at the phone, absent-minded for a long time. She didn’t know how long had passed when she mechanically exited WeChat, opened contacts, and called Jingyao’s phone. It rang only twice before he answered, his voice somewhat hoarse, "What’s wrong?"

Lin Hua wanted to speak but found she couldn’t get a word out, and he patiently waited.

Eventually, Lin Hua finally said, "Jingyao, come back early this afternoon, let’s go pick a gift for Zhou Yu together."

Jingyao gripped his phone, composed himself, then said in a cheerful voice, "Okay, I’ll be back by four."

They exchanged a few more words and then hung up.

After hanging up, Jingchuan asked, "Weren’t you not going to the office today? Why are you suddenly having a meeting?"

Jingyao closed his eyes briefly, then opened them and cleared his throat, "The meeting will end before three."

Jingchuan really couldn’t figure him out, with all these sudden changes, but still asked, "Do you have anything else at three?"

"Yes, going to see that bastard Zhou Yunchen." Jingyao said distastefully, "At the wedding banquet the other day, he looked so cold, as if he didn’t know me at all."

Jingchuan feigned ignorance, "Who in Beicheng doesn’t know you?"

Jingyao glanced at him, "Stop pretending, you know that’s not what I meant."

The secretary continued playing dumb, "Then what do you mean?"

Old Wang felt irritated, his face darkened, and he fell silent. Old Zhao quietly spoke up, "Secretary Wang, how dare you make Mr. Wang unhappy?"

Jingchuan chuckled mysteriously, also speaking quietly, "Usually I wouldn’t dare, but today is different. He’s over the moon, understandably happy."

Old Zhao scratched his head, smiling ingenuously, "I’m a simple man, don’t understand what being over the moon means."

Jingchuan purposely raised his voice, "It’s describing someone who has been waiting for a fairy godmother’s decision, and finally got it."

Old Zhao got excited, wanting to jump up, "I get it, it’s the same as being a love fool."

That remark froze the atmosphere.

Jingchuan touched his nose, kept silent, and Old Zhao still, oblivious, muttered, "Secretary Wang, isn’t that what it means?"

Secretary Wang dared not reply, discreetly looked backward, oh boy, his superior’s face was turning green, and Old Zhao kept rambling, so he sternly said, "Mind your manners when speaking about Mr. Wang."

Old Zhao realized suddenly, shut his mouth, and was now terrified.

As the car reached the office entrance, Jingyao got out, glared at him, and said lightly, "You’re right, I am Lin Hua’s love fool."

Old Zhao froze.

Jingchuan followed him up, then looked back at Old Zhao and said, "Old Zhao, you’re done for, can’t watch your mouth."

Old Zhao felt utterly aggrieved...
