Chapter 290: Conclusion [2]
Chapter 290: Conclusion [2]
The silence in the room was suffocating.Cyan was barely breathing, and Ethan’s hand was gripping the edge of his cushion tightly.
It was clear that the pressure emanating from Dreamweaver was incredibly difficult for them to withstand.
"...Ku...ekh..."
Both of them tried their best to endure it.
Irene sat perfectly still beside Leon. Her face was calm, but her fingers dug into the fabric of her dress.
On the other hand, Dreamweaver and Leon simply stared at each other.
It was as if Leon wasn’t bothered by the person sitting before him.
Ethan had asked himself several times just how much this boy was hiding.
But never in his wildest dreams had he imagined that Leon could stand confidently before a real Calamity.
Compared to him, Ethan was nothing.
Suddenly, several windows popped up in front of Ethan’s vision.
[Activating Emergency Protocol]
[Reaching Out to Moon Calamity]
[Trial #1]
[...]
[Success]
Then the screens vanished.
And as they did, Ethan finally felt relieved.
He could breathe again... as though nothing had happened.
’Huh? What just happened?’
Ethan blinked.
But before he could examine it further, he felt Dreamweaver’s gaze fall upon him.
"...!"
He stiffened.
But before long, those eyes returned to Leon.
Dreamweaver smiled.
"Professor Victor Hiengberg."
He repeated the name slowly.
"It has been... a long time since anyone called me by that name."
A faint smile appeared on his face.
"Three hundred and fifty-three years, to be precise."
But Leon simply smiled back.
"You are a strange one, Leon Valentine," Dreamweaver continued. "I was watching him." He briefly glanced at Ethan. "But who could have known that someone even more incredible was standing between us."
Leon finally opened his mouth.
"Incredible is an understatement, don’t you think?"
Dreamweaver’s eyes twitched.
Even Ethan and Cyan held their breath.
Is Leon insane?
Why is he provoking a literal Calamity?
But Dreamweaver didn’t seem to mind.
Instead, he asked a question.
"How did you do it?"
It was a very, very simple question.
How did Leon pull this off?
How did he build such a treaty?
How did he convince three Tower Heads to agree to it?
How did everything happen before Dreamweaver even had the time to react?
How does a mere mortal corner the Dream Calamity into such a miserable situation that he has no choice but to descend personally?
Neither Dreamweaver, nor the people constantly monitoring Evana, had found the answer to any of it.
To them, it felt as if the treaty had appeared out of nowhere.
As if, in a matter of seconds, everything they had built had been turned upside down.
CLINK–!!
"Tell me, boy."
He tapped his cane against the floor.
An ultrasonic sound erupted through the room.
Ethan and Cyan immediately covered their ears, the sound alone felt capable of splitting their ears apart.
Yet Leon remained completely unfazed.
He simply rested his chin on one hand.
Then he sighed.
"Leave it be. The understanding of how I did it is beyond you."
"...!"
"...!"
Ethan nearly jumped out of his seat.
’Has he lost his mind!?’
He was mocking a Calamity.
For a brief moment, silence settled over the room.
Then the entire house trembled.
Rumble—!
The ground shook violently, and something invisible passed through Ethan’s body.
It was a strange sensation, like a chain snapping somewhere far away, finally let all the birds free.
Leon glanced outside the window.
"Oh, look at that, the loop has been lifted." He added, "Next comes the teleportation."
The meaning behind those words was obvious.
The protection was gone, which meant Dreamweaver’s spell was now directly affecting Evana.
If he didn’t remove it immediately...
He would be violating the Oath of Balance.
Dreamweaver stared at him, before he burst into laughing.
The laugh didn’t sound frustrated, nor it was anger. If anything, it was due to pure amusement.
"You truly are an unpleasant existence."
Leon casually sighed.
"I get that a lot."
"Indeed."
Dreamweaver leaned back slightly, his green eyes observed Leon for several long seconds.
As though engraving his face into memory, before he spoke.
"Do you know what makes you dangerous, Leon Valentine?"
Leon raised an eyebrow.
"You possess neither overwhelming power nor ancient authority like us."
Dreamweaver slowly lifted his cane.
"Yet somehow, you continue to create outcomes that even we couldn’t predict Individuals like you are the reason history refuses to stay predictable."
For the first time since arriving, Dreamweaver’s smile disappeared.
"You have my admiration."
Ethan and Cyan nearly choked.
"But you also have my attention."
CLINK–!!
The cane struck the floor once more.
This time a pulse of emerald light erupted outward.
It swept through the room, through the house, the cities, and every street of Evana.
The sheer amount of power contained within that single wave was enough to make everyone’s scalp go numb.
Just like that, Dreamweaver had personally withdrawn it.
Dreamweaver stood up.
"Enjoy your victory, Leon Valentine."
His metallic wings slowly unfolded behind him.
"Three hundred years from now, I suspect people will still be speaking your name."
But before he vanished, he glanced at Ethan sitting there, and said directly to her.
"Ethan Graves, you have huge potential, like my daughter Lilly. Both of you hold enormous power, I am sure your mother would be pleased."
Just as Dreamweaver’s figure was about to disappear into the spatial fracture, Ethan suddenly stood up.
"You... you know my mother?"
He had not seen her since he was a child. And now the Dream Calamity mentioned her.
Dreamweaver paused.
"Head to the Moon Tower." Dreamweaver said quietly. "You will find her there."
"...What?"
"You heard me."
The space distorted, and his figure gradually disappeared into the fracture.
"Try not to die before we meet again."
It was Leon who said this.
"Hey-!"
Irene yanked at Leon’s shoulder. "Why are you tring so hard picking a fight with him?"
"...Holy shit." Cyan muttered. "Holy shit. He is gone."
Beside him, Ethan had not moved.
His mother.
"The Moon Tower?"
The Moon Tower that Leon had said was one of the three Towers backing the Evana treaty.
"...."
Ethan slowly turned his head.
"Leon."
"Mhm?"
"You knew."
Leon blinked.
"Knew what?"
He genuinely acted dumb at this point.
Just by looking at his face made Ethan verve tightened.
"Sigh... Never mind."
A bright light flashed through Irene’s house.
It spread outward, swallowing the walls and windows.
The world outside tilted slightly and then it was gone.
Just like that.
Leon and everyone else opened his eyes.
Outside, birds were chirping.
Irene walked to the window and pushed the curtain aside.
A new horizon stretched before her.
Mountains in the distance that had not been there before, and a morning sun rising over land that Evana had not seen in a year.
The city had been teleported.
Irene was the first to step out the door.
She closed her eyes and took a long, slow breath.
"Haaah..."
The air carried the smell of forests she had never walked through and skies she had never stood under.
Cyan and Ethan followed behind her.
Both of them squinted as the morning sun hit their faces directly.
Cyan stretched his arms above his head until something in his shoulder popped.
"Aaah... that feels good."
Ethan said nothing for a while.
Then he glanced at Cyan and Leon.
"Everything was so smooth."
To him, the whole quest felt easier than anything he had cleared before.
A window popped up in front of his vision.
[Quest Cleared.]
[Rewards will be granted in 24 hours.]
Ethan stared at the notification.
It really was done.
Cyan walked up beside him.
"Hey, am I dreaming?"
Ethan narrowed his eyes.
"Nah, this is real."
He looked back at the new horizon.
"And tomorrow is Class at Eclipse Academy."
Cyan’s eyes twitched.
"You didn’t need to mention that."
Ethan glanced at Leon.
Irene was approaching him from the side.
Ethan turned to Cyan.
"Cyan, let us go check on Vivy and the others."
"Oh, right!" Cyan agreed quickly. "It has been a while since I saw her. Oh wait, would they still remember us?"
"Just come."
He stretched his arms once more and started walking down the path that led to the City.
Before he stepped fully past the gate, he glanced back over his shoulder at Irene and Leon.
Ethan smiled softly to himself.
