Chapter 288: Drugging Friends, and Reunion with Elder Sister

Chapter 288: Drugging Friends, and Reunion with Elder Sister

Cyan looked between Leon and Ethan, he was clearly uncomfortable. He did not know what to say at this point.

Leon waited.

He could have pushed Ethan, but he knows what his thought process works.

Ethan finally spoke.

"I see."

He raised his cup and took a sip.

"When does the treaty activate?"

Leon smiled.

"As soon as you give Irene the Time Device, we can connect with my sister."

"Wait what?" Both Cyan and Ethan said at the same time.

Irene coughed before adding.

"The Time Device can make us communicate with the Blood Tower Head. You just have to give me a couple of minutes though."

. . .

Irene picked up the empty cups and stood from her seat.

"You two must be exhausted from your earlier loop. Come inside and rest, it will take me a couple of minutes to add the communication feature."

"...Now that you say, I am feeling a bit tired. Yawn...." Cyan yawned. "Ethan, Leon, wake me up when you are done."

BUMP—!

Similarly, Ethan beside him fell asleep too.

Leon looked at them both as he took a final sip before standing up.

"They will wake up, right?"

He asked Irene.

"Of course, I only added three drops in each of their coffee."

"Alright then," he tossed Irene the time device.

"Take both of them inside, they will catch a cold."

Leon nodded.

Leon and Irene had discussed this part earlier.

He did not want Cyan or Ethan included in the conversation with Veronica.

If they listened in, they would hear about the time rewind.

That could not happen.

So Irene had poured three drops of sleeping potion into each of their coffee cups before serving them.

Leon slumped Ethan onto Irene’s couch.

He was snoring just like Cyan beside him.

"...I apologized, but you can’t hear the conversation."

Leon would also use Command of Grace on both of them later.

It would plant a false memory in their heads.

By the time they woke up, they would believe they had already spoken to Veronica through the Time Device.

For now, they slept.

"Rumi, keep an eye on them"

He had asked Rumi to manifest in humanoid form.

. . .

Click.

Irene closed the door to her bedroom after inviting Leon inside.

"....what a mess."

Leon commented as he saw the scene before him.

The room was a contrast to the clean tea table outside.

Red strings ran from corner to corner like spiderwebs, pinned along them were photographs, notes in red ink, and clippings tied to one another with thin colored threads.

A large corkboard took up one entire wall, covered in maps of Evana and the surrounding forests. A second board leaned against the side of her bed, half filled with chalk diagrams of the Akashic Record building.

A wooden chair sat tipped over near the door, with a coat thrown across it.

But her desk was rather clean.

She walked towards her desk, placed the Time Device and sat down.

As Irene opened the Time Device with a small precision tool, Leon watched her carefully.

As a man who had liked tech, he genuinely wanted to know.

"...."

Irene noticed his stare.

"If you keep on staring at me. My focus will drift to you more than the device."

Leon blinked.

"Huh? Why is that? I just want to look at the mechanism."

Leon literally pulled another chair and adjusted it next to Irene.

"I will not disturb you to do your work. I will just watch."

He sat so close to her that she felt his shoulder brush against hers.

She tried to ignore him.

"Sigh... alright."

She focused.

Very soon, with great difficulty of not getting distracted, she was done.

"Haaah... I am done." Irene stretched both her arms above her head.

Beside her, Leon was already leaning forward.

"So let me be quick here." He started. "This thing can communicate via a channel spread across the endless reality, which was somehow connected to my sister’s office, and it runs on Astral Matter? But how does the channel actually work? I mean if—"

"Leon." Irene narrowed her eyes at him.

"Hm?"

"I am not understanding the things you are saying."

"Oh..."

Leon coughed and shoved his curiosity down for later.

"My apologies, then let us give it a try."

He set the final configuration which Irene had added.

His finger hovered over the holographic screen and he pressed enter.

"W-wait!"

Irene suddenly panicked.

Leon paused.

"What now?"

"Let me fix my hair first. A-and change into a new dress. Yes. Wait—"

"Huh? Why?"

"What do you mean why?! It is your sister!" Irene gasped. "I need to look as pretty as possible."

Leon blinked, actually he almost sneered.

’She acts just like a normal girl.’

"Alright, alright." Leon said. "I am waiting here. But believe it or not, you do not need it."

Irene gulped.

"A-are you saying I am already beautiful?"

"Huh? When did I ever say that?"

"...So you are telling me I am not beautiful?"

"Wait! When did I ever say that either?"

"That is what your reply implies!"

"That is not what my reply implies."

"Then say it properly!"

"Say what properly?"

"That I am beautiful!"

"That is..."

’This girl...!’

Before he could find the right words to escape, a soft beautiful voice cut through the bedroom.

"You both can take all your time. I will come back later."

Both Leon and Irene froze.

The voice did not come from Irene’s house.

It came from beside them.

They both slowly turned their heads.

Then looked around them.

The bedroom was gone.

Leon’s eyes widened slightly.

He knew this place.

The Blood Tower Head’s office.

And standing just a few meters away, leaning casually against her desk with her arms crossed, was a woman with long black hair and golden eyes that mirrored his own.

"...Sister." Leon muttered.

Veronica smiled.

But Leon could see a vein quietly pulsing at the corner of her forehead.

"How are you doing, my dear brother?"
