Chapter 106 Quarrel and Breakup
Chapter 106 Quarrel and Breakup
Edwards pulled Harry, who was sitting in his seat and unwilling to get up, up and strode towards Professor Dumbledore with his head held high. Harry followed Edwards with his head lowered.
"Harry," Aris whispered in Harry's ear, "Now that we have become warriors, no matter how you explain, no one will believe you. Hold your head up, you have done nothing wrong."
Harry forced a smile and raised his head. Draco controlled his pace and met up with Aeris and Harry.
"What's going on, Potter?" Draco whispered in confusion, "Did you put my name in the Goblet of Fire?"
"Go away!" Harry whispered angrily.
"Go to that little house and wait for a while!" Professor Dumbledore said calmly.
"Let's go!" Aes took the lead and entered the small house that Viktor, Fleur and Cedric had entered one after another.
When Draco finally entered the cabin and closed the door, the scene was very awkward for a moment.
Viktor was leaning against a pillar, staring gloomily at the fire in the fireplace; Fleur was sitting in an armchair, chewing her thumbnail; Cedric was sitting in a corner, silent, and the three of them were standing apart in a hostile manner.
"Why don't you say anything?" Aeris joked, "This is such a good opportunity! We can understand each other's opponents and make friends from different countries..."
"Did the referees ask you to call us out?" Furong said impatiently.
"On the contrary, Miss Delacour," said Aeris, "In fact, the three of us are also warriors. Harry represents Gryffindor; Draco represents Slytherin; I am willing to represent Ravenclaw; plus Cedric represents Hufflepuff. This only shows that the foundation of our house is comparable to that of your school..."
"What nonsense..." Furong said angrily, "How old are you? Aren't only students over 17 years old eligible to participate? What makes you think you can do that?"
"Just because we are being targeted," Aris said without showing any weakness, "someone hopes that we will be embarrassed, hope that we will be injured in the game, or even hope that we will die in the game..."
"Hahaha..." Furong laughed unabashedly, "Little guy, have you got... how do you say that Muggle word... paranoia..."
"You haven't heard about the Triwizard Tournament, have you? Miss Delacour," Aeris said, "You know the reason for the ban, right? The reason why the Triwizard Tournament was banned for two centuries was because of the extremely high probability of casualties. Why do you think that the three of us are people who would joke about our own lives?"
At this moment the door opened and Mr. Bagman walked in. Seeing the tense atmosphere in the room, Mr. Bagman said in a nonchalant manner, "Gentlemen and ladies, it appears that you have already had a cordial and friendly exchange."
Harry and Draco both looked at Mr. Bagman with strange expressions. "Ahem!" Mr. Bagman coughed awkwardly a few times. "This Triwizard Tournament is really wonderful. The Goblet of Fire has selected six champions..."
The small door was opened again and Professor Dumbledore walked in, followed by Mr. Crouch, Madame Maxime, Headmaster Karkaroff, Professor McGonagall, Professor Snape, Professor Sprout, Hagrid, and the limping Professor Moody. Before Professor Moody closed the small door, there was a noisy sound in the hall outside the small door, and the short Professor Flitwick was maintaining order.
Professor Snape pulled Draco aside and whispered something; Professor Sprout walked up to Cedric and patted his student's shoulder proudly; Professor McGonagall put her arms around Aeris and Harry's shoulders, one on each side, like a lioness protecting her cubs; Headmaster Karkaroff walked up to Viktor and seemed to be asking something.
Like a little girl who had been wronged, Furong walked up to Madame Maxime and said unhappily, "Are we, the adult wizards, going to participate in the competition with these three little boys?"
Aeris, Harry and Draco all looked at Fleur with unfriendly expressions. "Little boy?" The three of them grumbled in dissatisfaction almost at the same time.
"I'm afraid it is, Miss Delacour," said Mr. Crouch in a weary voice.
Professor Dumbledore, who had been silent, spoke up: "I want you to tell me clearly, Aeris, Harry, Draco, did you put your names in the Goblet of Fire?"
Harry and Draco both shook their heads in silence. Aris said, "Professor Dumbledore, you know me. I hate trouble. At least my broom-riding skills are no worse than Harry's. I have never thought of joining the Quidditch team. I have never been a person who likes to show off."
"I am sure of this," said Professor Dumbledore. "I just want to confirm something. Have you asked senior students to help you put your names into the Goblet of Fire?"
Aeris, Harry, and Draco all shook their heads in silence. Fleur laughed loudly. "I don't believe you haven't been tempted," Fleur said jokingly. "We've been preparing for so long just for the Triwizard Tournament, to win glory for the school, and for the 10,000 gold Galleons..."
"If you knew the reserves in our Gringotts vault, you would know that the three of us don't care about those 10,000 gold Galleons, Miss Delacour!" Aeris said bluntly.
Harry remained silent. Draco puffed out his chest with a smug look on his face, indicating that Aeris was not exaggerating.
"We need an explanation, Albus!" Madame Maxime said gracefully, but her proud chest rising and falling showed her inner unrest.
"Indeed, Albus," Headmaster Karkaroff said in a sleek, greasy voice, "Hogwarts is just a venue. I have never known a school where the venue is located to select multiple champions. Otherwise, I would have tried my best to get Durmstrang as the venue."
"The brown-haired boy just said," Fleur said as if she was complaining, "each Hogwarts house can select a champion, and the foundation of their house is comparable to that of our school."
Everyone looked at Aris, who said helplessly: "I am just stating the facts. After all, Hogwarts pioneered magic education..."
"But this is no reason for Hogwarts to break the rules," Headmaster Karkaroff shouted, "I now request that the Goblet of Fire be relit. Let the other two schools continue to put their names into the Goblet of Fire until each school has selected four warriors..."
"Impossible, Mr. Karkaroff," said Mr. Crouch, his disgust undisguised, "The Goblet of Fire has been extinguished. Until the next Triwizard Tournament begins, no one will be able to light the Goblet of Fire again. If you have the ability, you can try!"
"Drmstrang will never participate in the next Triwizard Tournament again..." Headmaster Karkaroff roared.
"It's just a threat that doesn't hurt anything," Professor Moody growled. "You can leave now, Karkaroff, and see what happens to Krum after you leave."
"You..." Headmaster Karkaroff seemed to be a little mute, "How dare you..."
"You are just complaining that your own interests have been damaged," Professor Moody ignored Principal Karkaroff and said to himself, "But no one cares about these three children. There must be someone who hopes that these three children will die on the field. You know, a fourteen-year-old little wizard cannot leisurely deal with a game of this standard..."
"Don't bring your theories into your classroom, Mad-Eye," Headmaster Karkaroff said sarcastically. "It is well known that if you don't catch a few people who have bad intentions towards you before dinner, your day will be wasted. Even if this person looks into your yard for one more time, you will want to put that person in Azkaban."
"I am just thinking in the opposite direction of the dark wizards, Karkaroff," Professor Moody said without showing any weakness. "You should have a deep understanding of this point..."
"That's enough, Alastor!" said Professor Dumbledore. "The Goblet of Fire is a very advanced magic prop, but that doesn't prove that it won't be fooled. An advanced Confusion Charm can do it. I don't think Harry and Draco can do it..." Professor Dumbledore looked at Aris with a meaningful look, and Aris just blinked innocently.
"Isn't there something wrong with your age limit, Albus?" Madame Maxime asked persistently.
"That's possible!" Professor Dumbledore said politely.
"Listen to what you're saying, Olympe," said Professor McGonagall in a disapproving tone. "No magic Albus casts could possibly fail..."
"There are exceptions to everything, aren't there, Minerva!" said Madame Maxime.
"If I hadn't known that Albus had the age limit, I would have brought our underage but talented students along..." Headmaster Karkaroff said in a teasing tone.
"No matter what," Mr. Crouch's tired voice sounded, "these three children must abide by the contract. They must participate in the competition. This is what was destined to happen after their names were selected from the Goblet of Fire."
Everyone had different expressions. Fleur was talking quickly to Madame Maxime in French. Viktor was still gloomy, as if he could only show this one expression. Cedric smiled indifferently and spoke quietly to Professor Sprout.
Mr. Bagman clapped his hands happily and said in a cheerful tone, "This Triwizard Tournament will surely be exciting and much more exciting than previous ones. Barty, please guide the warriors!"
"Oh, yes! Instruction..." said Mr. Crouch. "Come here, gentlemen, and ladies..."
The six warriors gathered around Mr. Crouch, and it was the first time that Aris looked at this wizard who looked like Adolf Hitler at such a close distance.
"This is your first match..." Mr. Crouch said, "I won't tell you that your ability to respond to situations on the spot is also part of the test of the Triwizard Tournament. You must be fully prepared before November 24th..."
Fleur, led by Madame Maxime, was the first to walk out of the room, talking quickly as they walked; Headmaster Karkaroff also left with Viktor, who glanced at Aeris curiously before leaving.
"Well, children," said Professor Dumbledore, "you should go back too. The students from Gryffindor, Hufflepuff and Slytherin are waiting for you to go back and have some fun. I can't deprive them of their good mood..."
Professor Dumbledore was still discussing something with Mr. Crouch and Mr. Bagman, while Aris, Cedric, Harry and Draco left the cabin one after another.
The auditorium was empty, the students had all gone back to rest, and only the sound of four people's footsteps echoed.
The four of them left the hall in silence. "It seems that we will be rivals from now on..." Cedric said, "How did you do it? You surpassed Professor Dumbledore's age limit!"
"We didn't!" Aeris, Harry, and Draco said in unison.
"Believe it or not, Cedric," Aerys said, "we are not only rivals, but also good friends, aren't we?"
"That's right!" Cedric said with a relieved smile. Aeris extended his fist to him and Cedric bumped fists with Aeris. "Good night!" Cedric waved and strode towards the Hufflepuff common room.
"Good night, you two," Draco also walked towards the basement.
"Good night!" Aeris muttered to himself, but Cedric and Draco seemed to have heard it. They turned around and smiled, then continued walking towards their respective common rooms.
Aeris and Harry also walked towards the Gryffindor Tower.
"Eris, what do you think?" Harry couldn't help but ask.
"I'm going to walk and see," said Aeris. "Believe me, Harry, I'm just as confused."
"I've had enough," said Harry. "Can't you just give me a year in peace?"
"I'm afraid not," said Aris. "Voldemort must have found a way to rebuild his body. When Hermione and I were reading books, we read all kinds of horrific magic that I couldn't even imagine. Among them was the horrible magic of rebuilding the body. Voldemort must be waiting for the right time..."
"But what does this have to do with letting us, a few underage wizards, participate in the Triwizard Tournament?" said Harry puzzled.
"Some magic can only be activated when the person you think is your enemy dies," Aeris said, "or when a part of your enemy's body is taken away. The vastness and wonder of magic is beyond your and my imagination."
As they were talking, they came to the entrance of the Gryffindor common room. The Fat Lady in the portrait said, "Look, look... Who is back? Our two Gryffindor warriors..."
Before the Fat Lady could finish her words, the portrait was opened from the inside, and more than a dozen arms stretched out and pulled Aeris and Harry in.
The cheers and shouts nearly tore down Gryffindor Tower.
"You're not a good brother!" Fred said bitterly, "Why don't you share your ideas with us?"
"That's right!" George echoed, "The next Dark Lord and Savior is disgusted with us, their friends..."
Harry looked unhappy. Aris took two bottles of butterbeer from Fred and George and put one in Harry's hand.
"Come on, Harry!" said Aris. "Be happy. This is all from your classmates."
Aris naturally blended into the carnival, clinking glasses with his classmates, chatting and laughing. Whenever his classmates asked Aris how he crossed the age limit drawn by Professor Dumbledore, Aris would always change the subject.
Harry always seemed to be looking for a chance to leave, but was pulled back by his classmates again and again. Edward muttered something in a low voice: "Professor McGonagall, if you don't come, we will party until dawn!" Edward used telepathy magic to ask Professor McGonagall for help.
Just when Harry was about to explode, Professor McGonagall entered the common room with a sullen face, and the revelry crowd was instantly silenced.
Under Professor McGonagall's unquestionable request, the students returned to their dormitories dejectedly.
When Professor McGonagall just entered the Gryffindor common room, Aries had already dragged Harry and quietly returned to their dormitory.
"Don't lose your temper, Harry," said Aris, "They just don't know the truth. At least they are sincere in their kindness to us."
Harry nodded sullenly. Both Aeris and Harry were wearing a cloak, and the Gryffindor lion on the cloak was roaring again and again.
When we arrived at the dormitory, Neville and the others had not returned yet. To be exact, most of the students were being lectured by Professor McGonagall.
Only Ron was lying on his bed, and he seemed to be still awake. "You guys are back. The carnival party was great, right?" Ron said with a fake smile on his face.
Noticing Ron's strange look, Aris and Harry realized that they were still wearing cloaks. They both took off their cloaks, Aris slowly and Harry seemed a little flustered.
"How on earth did you do it?" Ron said with a fake smile. "Oh! That's right! One of you has an Invisibility Cloak and the other can perform the Disillusionment Charm. I'm not really excluded by you, am I? This really makes me sad..."
"We... didn't... put... the name... in... the Goblet of Fire..." Harry said word by word.
"Come on, Harry," said Aris. "I thought you'd be more trusting of us, Ron."
"Of course I trust you," Ron said, "but... you know... I'm not a fool..."
"Your tone doesn't make you look like a smart person..." Harry said expressionlessly.
"Go to bed early, you two..." Ron's fake smile disappeared, and he said stiffly, "You may be interviewed tomorrow..." Ron turned his back and covered his head with the quilt.
Aeris and Harry looked at each other, not knowing what to say.
