Chapter 39: Tomb Guardian Spirit
Chapter 39: Tomb Guardian Spirit
The two had just finished exploring a mysterious ancient tomb. The excitement of adventure in their hearts had not yet subsided, but instead became even more profound in the dangerous environment.
"Do you think there are really ghosts in this ancient tomb?" Lin Yi suddenly stopped, turned around and asked Zhou Xi, with a bit of uneasiness in his eyes.
"No." Zhou Xi shook his head. Although he said so, his voice was trembling. "Even if there is, it's just a legend. I don't think I'll ever encounter it."
Lin Yi pursed her lips, still feeling a little scared: "Haven't you heard of the guardian spirits of ancient tombs? It is said that they would rather sleep in the tomb for a thousand years than be disturbed by outsiders."
"After all, we are here to see the scenery, not to disturb their peace." Zhou Xi tried to calm himself, but he was still feeling confused.
At this moment, the night around the two of them seemed to be slightly distorted, and a low murmur came from the air, as if countless voices were intertwined. Lin Yi raised his head, and the shadows of the trees around him suddenly became taller, and the moonlight fell through the treetops, reflecting a white shadow. The shadow, like a ghost, slowly emerged, with a cold look in his eyes, as if staring at them.
"Zhou Xi! Look..." Lin Yi's voice stopped abruptly. He took a step back and his whole body froze.
"I saw it..." Zhou Xi's voice became hoarse, with awe and fear in his eyes, "Could it be... a guardian spirit?"
The white shadow slowly turned around, and the delicate outline became clearer. But the face was blurry, as if trying to suppress some kind of anger or sadness. Then, the guardian spirit slowly spoke, and the voice was like the breeze passing through the valley, with an ethereal feeling: "Why are you disturbing my peace?"
"We...we didn't mean to disturb you." Lin Yi stuttered, his voice trembling a little, "We were just passing by...and happened to see this ancient tomb."
"Just passing by?" The guardian spirit lowered his head, as if thinking, his eyes dissecting the two of them like a knife. "Do you have greed in your hearts? Do you want to seize the secrets of the ancient tomb?"
Zhou Xi felt a chill running down his spine, and mustered up the courage to defend himself: "We didn't intend to covet anything, we were just... simply curious."
"Curious?" The guardian spirit sneered, "Curiosity is disturbing. Don't you know that every brick in the ancient tomb is the accumulation of hundreds of years of our ancestors? How can you be so easy to spy on?"
"If we really invaded your territory, we are willing to apologize." Lin Yi said anxiously, "But please don't punish us, we just did it unintentionally."
The guardian spirit's eyes softened slightly, as if thinking about his words. "If you are truly repentant, are you willing to accept the test? I can let you go."
Zhou Xi and Lin Yi looked at each other, knowing that this was undoubtedly their hope of saving themselves. Zhou Xi thought about it and asked the guardian spirit, "What is the test?"
"If you can pass my test, I will grant you a way to live. Otherwise, you will never be reborn." The voice of the guardian spirit was full of majesty.
Lin Yi felt the atmosphere was becoming increasingly tense, and quickly mustered up his courage: "We are willing to accept the test! Please tell us what we should do."
"Follow me." The guardian spirit turned around, and its light figure floated in the night sky like a wisp of smoke. The two were nervous, but they could only follow closely.
As they walked, the shadow of the ancient tomb became more mysterious under the moonlight. Lin Yi prayed in his heart, hoping that this adventure would be able to resolve all difficulties.
