Chapter 523: So It’s Time
Chapter 523: So It’s Time
Everybody including Simon had baffled and surprised expressions after perceiving the aura of a Grave Lord.
The Grave Lord was not approaching at a fast speed which was clearly obvious. If he or she was, they would have reached the Central Plaza in the blink of an eye.
Every single Grave Lord was a Demon Lord after all.
Simon looked down like every single clan member that perceived the aura of the Grave Lord.
’From below?’
Simon narrowed his eyes, then a few seconds later, he looked up.
Hovering in front of the Central Plaza was the Grave Lord.
And Simon knew this Grave Lord personally because he was the one that was responsible for the death of Zaglur and he was the one that brought Simon into the clan.
Seeing the three dots on the tall, crown-like black mask, Simon could not help but narrow his eyes.
’Black Midnight.’
The Grave Lord whose title was Black Midnight looked at the Central Plaza, then he looked at Simon, Caesar, the witnesses, and the judges.
The entire ravine was utterly silent due to the presence of the Grave Lord.
Even the constant sound of the wind in the ravine seemed to be absent in his presence.
He was not actively releasing his aura, but the passive aura of a Demon Lord was something that many could not ignore.
This state of silence continued for what felt like forever to many demons, but was actually just a few seconds.
This was the first time some clan members, especially for the slaves, were seeing a Grave Lord.
They rarely showed their faces, and they were completely enigmatic figures in the clan, so many were completely shocked when they realized that this was a Grave Lord.
Eventually, the judge wearing a white mask with countless eyes broke the silence.
"My Lord, can you please tell us why you have graced us with your presence?" He respectfully asked.
Black Midnight looked at the judge, then he looked at Simon.
"This trial no longer needs to hold."
The pupils of Caesar constricted violently, and the eyes of everybody including Simon, widened immensely.
If not for the suffocating presence of the Grave Lord, the entire ravine would have erupted with shouts and noises.
However, everybody had the same question in their minds.
Does Simon have a relationship with this Grave Lord?
Was the Grave Lord his backer?
Is that why he has been so arrogant despite being a slave?
Or was Simon not actually a slave?
Was he maybe the son of one of the Grave Lords?
Or worse... The elusive Night Sovereign?
No...
Or the absolute worst...
Was Simon probably the elusive Night Sovereign?
So many wild and unreasonable thoughts flew into the minds of the demons.
Even Caesar and the judges had similar thoughts and questions running through their minds.
Especially Caesar who knew that there was a particular history of Simon that even he could not access with all the connections and power he had.
Could this be it?
Simon’s backer was actually one of the Grave Lords or all the Grave Lords?
While everybody was having this thought, Simon was having a completely thought and feeling about Black Midnight’s sudden appearance.
He first believed that Black Midnight was here to stop the trial since it would be terrible if he died and they could not get the answers they needed out of him for the Devourer’s blood essence.
However, his gut told him that... things could not be that simple.
Could he be so lucky?
In the span of how many days, he had obtained the Ice Corpse Flower, Crimson Hydra’s blood essence, and the Fleshwood’s heart resin.
Could he be so lucky once again that even when the odds were greatly stacked against him, one of the Grave Lords would suddenly appear and save his life?
Simon didn’t think so.
And unfortunately for him, he was right.
The judge with the weeping demon mask questioned the Grave Lord.
"My Lord, with all due respect, this is a public trial for a slave who has committed a crime. We have to follow the law."
"If the laws are not followed and if they can be broken at any point in time all because one has connections, then what’s the point of the law?"
"Many clan members would feel that the slave is being favored and that he can wantonly commit any crime."
"My Lord, please let the trial continue and let justice be served."
Simon looked at the shameless judge with disbelief in his eyes.
He was astounded at how the judge could say those words with a straight face.
Justice?
The law?
Connections?
Favored?
Every single thing the judge said was complete bullshit since Caesar was the one that could break the law because of the connections and power that he had.
The judge just wanted to proclaim him guilty and serve the death punishment on him.
Simon looked at the Grave Lord, and his eyes flickered slightly.
’He seems... displeased?’
Just as Simon had this thought, Black Midnight spoke.
"You should mind your words, Judge Weeping. If not, I don’t mind performing a deep and extensive investigation into your life."
The judge trembled in fear, then he quickly bowed.
"Forgive me, my Lord."
Black Midnight scoffed.
"I understand what you’re trying to say, but I never said that Broken Halo would be free."
"I said the trial no longer needs to hold on because the Grave Lords have a better way of gaining the truth from him. With our method, we can know if he’s innocent or not."
Simon’s eyes widened slightly, and the terrible feeling in his gut deepened.
Meanwhile, the others had baffled expressions.
"Can you kindly tell us the method?"
Black Midnight looked at the black horned masked demon who spoke, then he looked at Simon.
"One of the elders of the Soul Mirror Demon clan has arrived. I believe that I don’t need to say anymore."
The eyes of the judges and Caesar widened in shock and disbelief.
As for Simon, his expression became deathly calm.
’So it’s time huh.’
