Chapter 757 - 490: Carved Golems, Elite [Hate Samurai]
Chapter 757 - 490: Carved Golems, Elite [Hate Samurai]
Fang Zhou remained calm. He had seen their Attributes long ago through his Soul Eagle Eye; they were all Bronze Middle rank.
However, they had no particularly special abilities. They were probably not systematically trained, regular Dragon Bone Soldiers, but they were still very strong. The Dragon Bone Soldiers were robust, tall, and extremely powerful. They also had natural Dragon Scale protection, granting them strong physical defense and Magic Resistance.
The seven of them together were stronger than the Carved Golems and undead servants they had defeated earlier.
Not only that, but a large number of Zombie Earth Dragons surged out from behind them. They were all about two meters tall, with some still bearing bits of eggshell, clearly having just hatched. In terms of strength, they were all Bronze Lower and not particularly strong, but over a hundred of them together were terrifying!
Such a vast number of enemies would be no easy task to handle.
"What... do we do?" Yan Yan quickly glanced around, seeking advantageous terrain for their defense.
"Into the engraving workshop! Close the door!" Fang Zhou commanded calmly. "Captain Yan Yan, didn’t you say this door has a ’Flame Trap’ and an ’Extreme Cold Trap’? It’s time to use them. Activate them!"
Yan Yan’s eyes lit up, and he ordered the members of the Flame Medal to enter in single file.
BAM!
The Alchemy Engraved Door slammed shut, as if separating two worlds.
"Just you watch, Lieutenant Fang Zhou!" Yan Yan raised his Magic Staff, shooting several energy rays into the Runes on the door. "Activate the Ice and Fire Runes!"
The time-worn Array Runes could still be activated. Flame and Ice Attribute energies condensed upon them, forming a strange sight where neither interfered with the other.
A dozen seconds later, flames erupted in the passage outside, subsequently exploding like fireworks and turning the entire corridor into a sea of fire.
In the intense blaze, the scales of the freshly hatched Zombie Earth Dragons—once as shiny as mirrors—turned dull and dim. They flailed and shrieked in agony amidst the raging flames, falling from the air one by one to their deaths.
Ultimately, they were just Zombie Earth Dragons. The protective capability of their dragon scales and skin was limited, and the small amount of Death Energy gathered on their bodies couldn’t withstand such high-temperature flames. The only outcome was severe injury or death. Only the Zombie Earth Dragons that were farther away or hadn’t yet left the "Breeding Area" survived.
Those seven Dragon Bone Soldiers, however, were much stronger. When the flames surged in, the Death Energy within their bodies leaked out, blocking the scorching heat. Thanks to the trap Runes on the Alchemy Engraved Door, the Magic Flames appeared and dissipated with equal speed.
Then, the second trap was triggered. A frigid current swept through the entire passage. The current was filled with densely packed Ice Crystals, freezing all the Dragon Bone Soldiers and Zombie Earth Dragons in place.
Undead Creatures are naturally far more resistant to ice energy than to flame energy. Most of the Zombie Earth Dragons had already been burned to death, so whether it was cold or not was irrelevant to them.
The problem, however, was that the bodies of the Dragon Bone Soldiers and the few Zombie Earth Dragons that survived had been directly exposed to the fire. They were now as scorching hot as red-hot iron. Now, as a frigid current with temperatures below negative fifty degrees washed over them, what happens when extreme heat meets extreme cold?
This was truly a baptism of ice and fire.
CRACK!
The sudden contraction caused by the huge temperature difference destroyed their internal structures. Just as this was true for rocks, so it was for their dragon scales.
CRACKLE! POP! A chorus of brittle fractures filled the air, accompanied by the screams of the Dragon Bone Soldiers and Zombie Earth Dragons.
"Worthless! A bunch of worthless trash!"
「In the main burial chamber」
The Skeleton Mage was absolutely furious.
"All of you, charge! Kill those damned intruders! The Carved Golem Legion only needs a few more minutes to fully activate! You must buy more time!"
He was truly helpless. After countless years of slumber, he had been reduced to a weak Skeleton Mage. His brain, long dormant, was no longer sharp.
「Meanwhile, outside」
As the orchestrators of the chaos, Fang Zhou and Yan Yan naturally knew exactly what was happening.
"Captain Yan Yan, destroy the trap Runes on the door, just to be safe," Fang Zhou instructed the members of the Flame Medal. "Also, get some ice and freeze this door shut. I want to make sure those things outside can’t get in!"
A Mage’s abilities involved far more than just casting spells by rote.
Freezing the Alchemy Engraved Door with ice, combined with its heavy alloy panels... how could those Dragon Bone Soldiers outside possibly break through? It would be far too late for them.
Then, Fang Zhou turned to the neatly arranged columns of Carved Golems being charged and activated behind them. He addressed the other Combat Professionals, "Do as I say. Stop the Carved Golems from activating!"
"I’m familiar with Carved Golems. Don’t try to damage the Magic Runes on the floor, and don’t even think about destroying the Energy Core or the main control center.
"They’re shielded by heavy carvings, which makes trying to destroy them that way too inefficient.
"Grab some blunt weapons and smash these golems’ knees!
"Their design is outdated, and their joint protection is inadequate.
"Destroy their knees, and you’ll eliminate most of the threat."
"Do as Lieutenant Fang Zhou says! Smash them hard!" Lin Qingshan, the Bronze Middle Shield Dancer Vice Captain, commanded loudly, as he began smashing a golem with his own Heavy Hammer.
He was quite strong, and his hammer was made of good material—heavy and sturdy. After just a few swings, debris went flying as the first Carved Golem toppled. Then the second.
Jing Fei led the other Combat Professionals to find heavy objects, which they hoisted up and slammed down on the knees of the Carved Golems.
Meanwhile, the cluster of Corpse Warriors summoned by Fang Zhou transformed their weapons into Corpse Hammers under the effect of the Skeleton Armory. They rushed forward, smashing into the Carved Golems with a series of thunderous clangs.
Watching this unfold, Fang Zhou breathed a sigh of relief.
The teachings at Sea City Military Academy were eclectic and inclusive. Through osmosis, he had absorbed a great deal of related knowledge. While he couldn’t build a golem himself, he knew a lot about them. And now, that knowledge was proving incredibly useful.
These ancient golems were solid, not Black Iron Tier, but all Bronze Tier. If these hundred-plus Carved Golems, all at least Bronze Tier, were actually activated, they would be weapons of slaughter on any large battlefield.
With his current strength, he could probably defeat this dilapidated golem legion in open combat, but only at great cost. It just wasn’t worth it.
Golems were merely lifeless objects. The true enemy was the master of this tomb, the one controlling them. If he took out the mastermind, these Carved Golems would become rare spoils of war!
「In the main burial chamber」
"They can do that?" The Skeleton Mage stared, dumbfounded.
The Dragonbone Guards are blocked outside, and the golem legion’s mobility has been crippled. I can’t hesitate any longer!
The Skeleton Mage raised his bony hand, quickly sketching in the air. Streaks of Spiritual Light flickered into existence and then vanished.
Beneath the Pentagram Array, which was centered on the Skeleton Mage’s own coffin, five slightly smaller caskets were embedded in recesses in the floor.
CRACK!
Following the Skeleton Mage’s movements, a mechanism underground activated, slowly elevating the five caskets.
Torrents of Death Energy burst from the Skeleton Mage’s coffin. In the ensuing storm, the five caskets disintegrated into dust, revealing five Hate Samurai. They were clad in Armor of Hatred and clutched equally cold Hate Weapons, slumbering peacefully.
The Pentagram Array ceased its energy transfer to the Skeleton Mage’s coffin, redirecting it toward the dim stone platform. The energy then transformed into blackish-gray Runes that lifted the Hate Samurai from the platform.
Time ticked by, and then, suddenly, they opened their eyes.
The Skeleton Mage’s voice carried a hint of undeniable fatigue. "Awaken, my followers!" he commanded. "Go! Take the secret passageway into the engraving workshop and kill those detestable invaders!"
Hate Samurai, like Ghouls, were a unique type of undead created by the Undead Mages of the Naraku Civilization. They were crafted from an Undead Mage’s most loyal followers, transformed while in a state of deep resentment. As a result, they were filled with hatred for the living and possessed an incredibly high potential for power.
