Chapter 13 Necessary Procedures
Chapter 13 Necessary Procedures
Luo Wei walked at the very front.
He was not wearing the long robe that symbolized a fourth-level clerk.
Instead, he changed into a spare coat from the defense force, with the collar turned up to cover half of his face.
He walked very steadily.
The distance of each step seems to have been precisely calculated.
"Your Excellency, Advisor."
Buck followed behind.
The one-eyed commander kept his finger on the trigger guard of the bomb gun, and a red warning light flashed in his prosthetic eye.
"Wouldn't it be too conspicuous for us to do this? The Executive Yuan has heavy explosive machine gun turrets."
"Showy?"
Loewe did not turn around.
His voice came through the collar of his coat, sounding somewhat muffled but unusually calm: "Buck, what do you think we're doing?"
"Uh, a mutiny?" Buck swallowed hard.
He was a rough man, but he knew what crime it was to lead 50,000 people to storm an administrative building.
"Wrong."
Luo Wei stopped and turned around.
His deep brown eyes held no fervor, only a calm as still as an icy lake.
"We are following procedures."
He pulled out a charred fragment of amulet from his pocket, which was sealed in a bag and wrapped in layers of fabric.
Even through the bag, you can still feel the nauseating distortion.
"When the executive director is suspected of colluding with heretics in an attempt to destroy the empire's tithe source."
According to Article 44, Item 7 of the Ministry of the Interior's Wartime Emergency Regulations, any loyal Imperial citizen has an obligation to assist in controlling the situation until the Tribunal intervenes.
After saying that, Lowe put the amulet back into the inner pocket close to his chest.
There were several layers of lead plates used as lining.
"We are not thugs, Buck. We are whistleblowers, witnesses, and the cornerstones of Imperial law."
Luo Wei straightened his collar.
"These 50,000 people aren't going to fight; they're going to 'listen in.' With more people, they can hear more clearly."
Buck paused for a moment, then grinned, revealing uneven, yellow teeth.
"Damn it, I love you intellectuals. You talk about killing like it's nothing.
"There's no real difference," Lowe said calmly. "It's all about eliminating erroneous data."
He raised his hand and glanced at the brass pocket watch.
The second hand ticked away.
"Let's go, Manager Case must be getting impatient."
……
Executive Yuan building.
This Gothic building stands tall in the middle of the slums.
The exterior walls are carved with images of suffering saints and roaring imperial eagles.
Over the years, acid rain has blurred the faces of the saints.
The eagle's wings were also covered in black oil stains.
In his top-floor office, Case was trembling.
It was a chilling shiver that came from the depths of one's soul, more piercing than any cold.
He was holding a glass of amasek in his hand.
He was completely unaware that the expensive wine had spilled on the velvet carpet.
Outside the window, the gray ocean was approaching.
Fifty thousand people.
A full 50,000 people!
If it were a mob, Case wouldn't be afraid at all.
He had automatic cannons, a private guard, and a gas-spraying device.
With just the press of a button, those lowly people will fall like wheat.
But this group of people is different.
They were too quiet.
The uniform silence and the unwavering discipline reminded Case of the Imperial Guard's military parade.
What terrified him even more was the young man walking at the very front.
Luo Wei, who used to be timid and subservient in front of him, only knowing how to copy account books with his head down.
"Those useless trash, those useless trash!"
Case slammed the glass against the wall, sending shards of glass flying everywhere.
"Wasn't it supposed to be foolproof? Wasn't it supposed to be a gift from a loving father? Why was it burned to ashes by a broken harvester?!"
"My lord."
The voice of the man in black robes came from the shadows, sounding somewhat flustered:
"We underestimated him. His understanding of machinery was almost heretical. A normal harvester couldn't possibly have that kind of destructive power."
"What's the use of saying all this now!" Case roared, his fat face trembling violently. "He's here, with his army! He must have discovered something!"
"We still have a chance," the man in black said sinisterly. "If we kill him, this rabble will scatter. You can say he instigated the riot and you killed him on the spot."
"Yes...yes, kill him."
Case nodded repeatedly, rushed to the desk, and pressed the red button on the communicator.
"Attention all guards! Attention all guards! Target: Lowe! Once within firing range, kill on sight! I repeat, kill on sight!"
There was only a hissing sound from the communicator.
no respond.
"Feed? Hey! This is Case!"
There has still been no response.
"This is impossible..." Case slumped in his chair, his silk shirt soaked with cold sweat.
Nothing is impossible.
The heavy oak doors to the office were pushed open.
There was no violent breach of the door as expected, nor was there a hail of bullets.
The door hinges turned, making a dull sound.
Lo Wei walked in.
He was not followed by a large army.
Only Buck and two fully armed defense soldiers were present.
Lowe took off his dusty overcoat and handed it to the soldier next to him, revealing the badge on his chest that symbolized "Special Advisor".
His movements were natural, as if he had returned to his own home.
Good morning, Manager Case.
Luo Wei walked to the desk, pulled out a hardwood chair, and sat down.
That was the seat I was usually allowed to sit in when reporting to Case.
He sat upright, his hands crossed on his knees, calmly watching the mountain of flesh huddled in the large boss's chair.
"You...you..."
Case pointed at Lowe, his finger trembling like someone with Parkinson's. "Where are the guards? Where are my guards?"
"They're downstairs, maintaining order."
Luo Wei's tone was flat.
"Fifty thousand emotionally charged farm workers gathered downstairs. To prevent a stampede, I have Commander Buck take over your guards to assist in managing the crowd."
Your bodyguard is very understanding and cooperated fully after reviewing a document regarding the "transfer of wartime command."
That was what Buck used to make the guard captain "see" by pressing a bomb gun against his head.
Of course, there's no need to mention this detail.
"Do you want to rebel, Lo Wei?"
Case roared at the top of his lungs, trying to drown out his fear with volume.
"I am the head appointed by the Executive Yuan, I am an aristocrat, and you are merely a lowly clerk!"
"Let me correct that."
Luo Wei took a document out of his pocket and gently placed it on the table.
"I am the Governor's Special Agricultural Advisor and also the Honorary Technical Priest of the Seventh Diocese."
He paused for a moment, then looked past Case and at the black-robed man hiding in the shadows.
"Furthermore, I am also a witness to and the person who handled this serious intrusion incident."
Upon hearing the word "heretic," Case's face instantly turned ashen.
The black-robed figure in the shadows moved.
The situation was hopeless, but he didn't want to die.
