Chapter 514: We must speed up now
"You've been using me..." Su Ming's tone was low, but filled with anger and resentment. "What do you want?"
"Don't you understand yet?" Xu Hongda's eyes were as deep as the sea. "I've been forcing your relationship to this point. I need you to save Zheng Yaoxian, and he needs you to complete everything. I planned all of this a long time ago."
Su Ming's heart surged, and his hands began to tremble slightly. He finally understood that the goal he had been pursuing wasn't a simple rescue, but a vast chess game, a trap meticulously laid from the outset. And he was already deeply trapped within it.
"So, what do you want to do with me?" He clenched his fists, his eyes piercing, as if he wanted to see through the man in front of him. "What is your purpose?"
Xu Hongda's lips curled into a cold smile. "I don't need you to know too much. As long as you continue to play your role well, everything will fall into place naturally." He stood up and looked at Su Ming coldly. "However, I know you are not easy to be manipulated. You may choose to resist, but that doesn't matter. Every step you take in resistance will only bring me closer to my goal."
Su Ming's eyes grew sharper at Xu Hongda's sneer. A rage burning hotter than fire ignited within him, and resentment and doubt surged like a flood, each wave threatening to consume him. But in that moment, he forced himself to calm down, gather his thoughts, and prepare to face the dilemma ahead. Though Xu Hongda was clever and calculating, he had never truly understood Su Ming's true resolve—he would not be manipulated by anyone, nor would he be forced to lose his way.
"You're right, Xu Hongda." Su Ming finally lowered his head, his tone becoming deeper. "You've been using me, but you were wrong. You underestimated my patience and the relationship between Zheng Yaoxian and me."
Xu Hongda was slightly taken aback. The confident smile still lingered on his lips, but the disdain and contempt in his eyes faded slightly. He seemed to realize that Su Ming's eyes held not only anger, but also an unshakable determination—a conviction deep in his bones, a conviction Xu Hongda had never seen in anyone before.
"Do you think you can take anything away from me?" Xu Hongda's tone was still filled with disdain, but he did not continue to press. Instead, he paused, as if observing Su Ming's reaction. "If you really think you can take Zheng Yaoxian away from me, then you are gravely mistaken."
"The only thing Zheng Yaoxian can take from you is your life," Su Ming replied coldly. His gaze shifted from Xu Hongda's face to the closed door in the corner of the room. He knew his time was running out. Although Xu Hongda appeared calm, a deeper danger lay hidden behind him. If he didn't act quickly, any moment of hesitation could become a fatal mistake.
Xu Hongda slowly sat back down at his desk, seemingly making no further moves. He sighed softly, his tone tinged with amusement, "Do you really think you can rescue Zheng Yaoxian? You have to know that the harder you try to do something, the easier it is to be manipulated."
"How dare you." Su Ming's eyes suddenly became sharp. He dodged and rushed to the door, opening it almost instantly.
The light in the room illuminated Zheng Yaoxian's pale face. He leaned against the bed, his eyes half-closed, appearing extremely weak. Su Ming's heart suddenly tightened, and in that moment, he could hardly control himself. Zheng Yaoxian's injuries were far more serious than he had imagined. Although some of the wounds had scabbed over, he looked so frail that he could barely stand. Every breath seemed labored, and even the slightest movement of raising his head was extremely difficult.
"Master," Su Ming called softly, trying to keep his voice subdued with warmth and strength. His eyes quickly scanned the wounds on Zheng Yaoxian's body, and a wave of pain clenched in his heart. He was his lifelong mentor, the one who had first brought him from a clueless youth into this complex world. Now, Zheng Yaoxian lay there, his body covered in wounds, looking at him helplessly, his eyes filled with exhaustion and pain.
A hint of surprise flashed across Zheng Yaoxian's eyes, and then he forced a faint smile and said in a low voice, "You're finally here."
Su Ming barely had time to think. He quickly walked to the bedside and gently helped Zheng Yaoxian up. His voice was low and urgent: "Master, don't speak. Wait for me to take you away."
A complicated look flashed across Zheng Yaoxian's face, as if he wanted to say something, but in the end he just shook his head slightly: "You..." He uttered a word with difficulty, "Be careful."
"I know." Su Ming responded in a low voice with a determined look in his eyes, "We can get out of this." After saying that, he turned around and walked quickly towards the door without saying anything else.
However, at this moment, footsteps suddenly sounded at the door. Hearing this movement, Su Ming turned back instantly, his eyes becoming more alert. Xu Hongda didn't seem to intend to let them go. His footsteps were light and oppressive, gradually approaching with the sound.
"It seems you're not going to give up so easily," Su Ming muttered to himself, his eyes instantly turning colder. At this moment, he no longer had much time to dwell on his complex emotions and doubts. All his anxiety and pain rested solely on the success or failure of this rescue.
"Master, follow me closely." He whispered to Zheng Yaoxian, his voice a little nervous but more determined.
Zheng Yaoxian's eyes held a complex emotion, as if he wanted to say something, but his frail body prevented him from uttering a single word. Su Ming lowered his head, his heart pounding. He knew he had to hurry. If Xu Hongda truly arrived with his men, the consequences would be disastrous.
He quickly supported Zheng Yaoxian and walked towards the other end of the room. The corridor was still dim, and a dead silence surrounded them. The air was filled with unease and anxiety. Su Ming could almost hear his own accelerated heartbeat, and in that moment, all his thoughts became extremely clear - he had to rescue Zheng Yaoxian, leave this suffocating place, and take his master away alive no matter what.
"Where else do you want to go?" Just as Su Ming walked to the corner of the corridor, Xu Hongda's voice came from behind him, with a hint of teasing and disdain.
Su Ming didn't stop, his gaze still firm, like a cold stone, completely unmoved by the outside noise. He knew that if Xu Hongda really took action, then all this would be over. But he still had to keep going.
