Chapter 22: Yu Xiaogang, bring your theoretical knowledge!
Tang San followed Oscar to the simple canteen for a meal. The food was just as simple as the canteen itself, but Tang San got used to it and wondered what Shrek Academy across the street would be like.
Just then, Tang San suddenly remembered that before he left Notting City, Yu Xiaogang had given him a letter, which he was to personally deliver to the dean of Shrek Academy after arriving there.
I just forgot about it when I came here. Now that I've remembered, I can go and hand in the envelope again. My teacher might have a good relationship with this dean, and maybe I can get preferential treatment.
Tang San stood up and looked at Oscar, who was still drinking porridge.
"Senior Oscar, where is the dean's office?"
Oscar looked up and wiped his mouth with his sleeve.
"Are you looking for the dean? Go out of the cafeteria, turn right, and walk to the last room, the biggest one. He should be there right now, so just go."
Tang San nodded, turned around and walked out of the cafeteria.
Xiao Wu glanced at him, then at the remaining porridge in her bowl, put down her bowl, and followed him out.
"Third Brother, where are you going?"
"Find the dean and deliver a letter."
"Then I'll go with you."
The two walked through the overgrown yard, stepping on the cracks in the stone path, until they reached the largest house.
Tang San knocked on the door.
"Come in."
Flander's voice came from inside.
Tang San pushed open the door and entered, with Xiao Wu following behind.
The dean's office was small, containing a desk, a few chairs, and a bookshelf.
There were some documents and ledgers piled on the table, and an abacus next to it. Flander was sitting behind the table, writing something with a pen. When he saw Tang San and Xiao Wu come in, he put down the pen, took off his glasses, and wiped them with a cloth.
"What's up?"
Tang San took the letter out of his pocket and handed it over with both hands.
"Dean, this is what my teacher asked me to give you."
Flanders took the letter, glanced at the handwriting on the envelope, and his brow twitched slightly.
He opened the envelope, pulled out the letter inside, and quickly scanned it.
Then his eyes widened a little.
"Are you the master's disciple?"
Tang San nodded.
"Yes."
Flander looked Tang San over again, his eyes, hidden behind his glasses, becoming serious.
He looked Tang San up and down several times, then glanced at the words on the letter, and a slow smile spread across his face.
"That guy actually takes on disciples?"
"He has very high standards and doesn't look up to ordinary people. The fact that he has taken a liking to you means that you do have some talent."
Tang San bowed slightly.
"Teacher, you flatter me."
"Overrated?"
Flanders chuckled.
"If he says you can do it, then you can."
He folded the letter, put it in the drawer, and then looked at Tang San with a serious expression.
"Since you are Yu Xiaogang's disciple, I won't beat around the bush with you. Your teacher's greatest wish in this life is to prove that his theory is correct. Now he has handed this responsibility to you, so you should study hard and practice hard."
"Don't let your teacher down."
Tang San nodded seriously.
"I will."
Flander leaned back in his chair and tapped his fingers twice on the table.
"Alright, I received the letter. Go back and get some rest. Tonight's training won't be easy."
Tang San turned and walked towards the door, but stopped abruptly when his hand touched the doorknob.
Flander watched his retreating figure.
"Is there anything else?"
Tang San remained silent for a moment, then slowly turned around and looked at Flander.
Those eyes held an unreadable emotion.
"Dean, what do you think of that Shrek Academy across the street?"
Flander raised an eyebrow slightly, and at that moment the room suddenly fell silent.
Tang San didn't look away; he was waiting for Flander's answer.
He didn't believe Flander was unaware of what had happened at the academy across the street. Yesterday, Zhao Wuji was beaten in the street, and the other party's people were standing right across the street; everyone on the street saw it.
As the dean of Shrek Academy, it's impossible for Flander to have been completely unaware of the situation.
Flander looked at Tang San, remained silent for a few seconds, and then sighed softly.
"Of course I know."
"That academy across the street, from its name to its enrollment policy, is clearly targeting us. I also know that Zhao Wuji was beaten yesterday."
Tang San frowned.
"Then you..."
"Now is not the time to take action."
Flanders interrupted him, speaking calmly.
"The difference between colleges cannot be determined by a fight. The quality of student training is the true measure of a college."
"Fighting? That's what street thugs do."
Tang San nodded slightly after hearing these words.
He thought Flanders had a point.
The competition between colleges is actually about the students they produce, not which of their two teachers is more capable.
But he always felt that there was something unspoken in Flander's expression.
He was right.
What Flanders was thinking at that moment was completely different from what he was saying.
"I can't exactly tell this kid that I can't beat them, can I?"
Flanders gave a bitter laugh to himself.
He, Flander, a level 78 Soul Saint, a four-eyed cat owl, was two levels higher than Zhao Wuji in terms of soul power.
But in terms of combat power, he couldn't beat Zhao Wuji. Even Zhao Wuji was easily crushed by that blue-haired young man on the other side. If he went up there, wouldn't he just be offering himself up as food?
Flanders felt a chill run down his spine at the thought.
"unless……"
An idea popped into his mind.
"The golden trio has reunited."
Flander, Yu Xiaogang, and Liu Erlong, a trio of martial soul fusion skills, the Golden Iron Triangle.
If the three of them were together, they wouldn't be afraid of even an eight-ring Soul Douluo, let alone a seven-ring Soul Saint.
The problem is, how easy is it for the three of them to get together again?
Flander sighed inwardly and suppressed these thoughts.
Tang San nodded after listening to Flander's words.
"I see."
Before he could say anything more, Flanders had already spoken.
"You should already be familiar with Shrek Academy's admission standards, right?"
Tang San nodded.
"We only accept monsters, not ordinary people."
"right."
Flander tapped his fingers on the table twice more.
"Our college only has five people right now. Do you know what that means?"
Tang San thought for a moment.
"Does this mean resource concentration?"
"That's right."
Flander's lips curled into a smile.
"We have fewer students, so each student receives sufficient attention and development. Resources are limited; can the effect be the same whether they are shared among five people or dozens?"
He paused, then continued.
"How many people did that academy across the street recruit? At least several dozen, right? With so many people, resources are naturally scattered. And did you see that? The soul power levels of the people they recruited are all over the place. Some are only level thirteen or fourteen. With that kind of aptitude, they wouldn't even be qualified to apply in our academy."
"That academy advertises itself as turning ordinary people into monsters, so it must allocate more resources to the less talented students. Otherwise, it wouldn't be easy to train people with poor aptitude."
"But you are different. You are monsters, geniuses. If you were to enter that academy, it would be a waste of your talents. Think about it, monsters can enjoy the resources all to themselves, why should they be shared with those of mediocre talent?"
After hearing these words, Tang San felt they made a lot of sense, and even thought it was a good thing he hadn't joined the Shrek Academy on the other side.
Otherwise, having to distribute resources to others to raise the average level, given his own talent, would be quite unfriendly to him.
"You're right."
Tang San's tone was a little more relaxed than before.
"I'll go back and get myself ready for tonight's training."
Flanders nodded in satisfaction.
"Go."
Tang San turned around, and this time he didn't stop. He pushed open the door and walked out of the dean's office. Xiao Wu followed behind him, and the two walked back along the way they came.
In the dean's office, Flander leaned back in his chair, took off his glasses, and rubbed his temples.
The composure he had shown moments before was gone, replaced by a deep weariness and anxiety.
"Xiao Gang, oh Xiao Gang."
He muttered to himself.
"I have already accepted you as my disciple, but when will you be able to come? If you could bring your theoretical knowledge with you, these little monsters would surely grow much faster, wouldn't they?"
