Chapter 53: The Two Heroes of Hogwarts
Chapter 53: The Two Heroes of Hogwarts
Within just one week of the start of the semester, Professor Hamilton and Professor Lockhart's Defense Against the Dark Arts classes had become the talk of the town at Hogwarts.
Professor Lockhart assigned a pop quiz on information about himself in his very first class, which caused quite a stir.
The Cornish elves he released ran rampant throughout the classroom, but were eventually stopped by Professor Snape on patrol.
Professor Hamilton's Defense Against the Dark Arts class, however, was probably not so lighthearted and humorous.
Most students believed that Professor Hamilton's class should be renamed Defense Against the Dark Arts instead of Dark Arts.
Many students were terrified by the rather realistic killing curse, and there were even rumors that a second-year student was hospitalized for several days after being hit by the killing curse.
Loila was also aware that her classes had recently caused quite a stir... She had received many letters from students, some of which contained questions that students were curious about, such as whether the person behind the mask was a werewolf.
Others sought guidance on dark magic, with many Slytherin students seemingly believing Royla to be some kind of dark wizard... even though she actually was.
But that doesn't mean Royla would dare teach dark magic at Hogwarts!
Some students even came to ask some very strange questions.
For example, does Loila have Mr. Müller's contact information... or address, etc.?
Loila had never received so many letters before... but that didn't mean she was happy.
This isn't a friend's letter... it's a student's letter. Who knows if there's some kind of threat hidden in that envelope?
Or perhaps something with a slightly creepy undertone like "I know who you are".
Therefore, when replying to letters, Loila always kept it brief, mostly ending with "No, I don't know, no way." Occasionally, she would answer some serious questions... but she felt that her replies were probably not very good.
But simply receiving a letter is fine; the most troublesome thing is that sometimes a memory headband is sent along with the letter.
They don't know what they did with the headbands, but damaged headbands are being sent to us every day... This is absolutely the most malicious behavior!
While repairing the magic array props, Loila memorized the names of those students, intending to settle scores with them one by one once Dumbledore fell from power!
Mr. Weasley, Mr. Longbottom, Mr. Weasley, Miss Parkinson, Mr. Weasley...
Why are they all Weasleys?
Just as Loila was wondering what was going on, she suddenly heard a knock on the office door.
"Professor Hamilton, I need to speak with you!"
It's that serious-looking vice principal!
Why...why is she here?
A surprised Loila quickly waved her wand to tidy up the room and put on her hood.
She...she wouldn't be here to fire me, would she?
Loila, her face a little pale, walked to the door and carefully pushed it open a crack, peeking her head out.
"McG...Professor McGonagall...It's an honor to meet you..." she stammered, uttering the most respectful greeting she could muster.
"I'm honored too," McGonagall's voice sounded rather serious. "It's an honor to meet you."
"Alas!"
I'm definitely going to get fired!
Professor McGonagall frowned as she pushed open the door and walked in. She looked around the office before slowly sitting down.
"Professor Hamilton, do you know what's happened this week?"
"I...I know I was wrong!" Seeing that McGonagall seemed about to get angry, Loila quickly bowed ninety degrees and said, "Please...please don't fire me!"
"Even if I get fired or something... I'd still... hope I could at least get a job... like cleaning or something..."
"I'm definitely cleaner than those... fairies..." Loila's voice grew softer and softer until it was completely inaudible.
"Professor Hamilton, I'm not here to expel you." Seeing her like this, McGonagall paused for a moment, then shook her head, her displeasure turning into a hint of sympathy.
"I'm just reminding you," she paused, then said, "Please don't display the Unforgivable Curse in class."
"I...I didn't..." Loila said instinctively, "That's...that's Mr. William..."
"Who is Mr. William?" McGonagall asked after a pause.
"Durmstrang's... Professor of Dark Magic..."
"Then please tell him not to use the Unforgivable Curse in the classroom." McGonagall took a deep breath; she had just felt a little sympathetic for Miss Hamilton's ordeal, but now she felt a little angry again.
"But he... he should be dead by now," Loila whispered. "He was in his fifties then, and more than fifty years have passed since then..."
"What I mean is, please stop showing students memory clips about the Unforgivable Curse in class!" McGonagall said, straightening her expression.
That's right, a memory fragment... What Harry and the others saw wasn't a scene conjured by Royla's magic, but rather the Durmstrang lessons she actually experienced.
She used the memory magic circle on the Pensieve to store her memories in her headband, and then used the linking magic circle and the transfer magic circle to share them with other headbands.
She also felt that Durmstranger's course might not be suitable for Hogwarts students, so she made special modifications, such as blurring her face and the gestures of dark magic...
But that doesn't seem to be enough...
Seeing McGonagall's anger, Loira pursed her lips and said, "I will... I will strictly screen my memories..."
"If all else fails... if... if Professor McGonagall wants to see it... you can review it first..." Without realizing it, Loila even started using honorifics.
(I just don't know if there's such a thing as honorifics in English.)
"Audit?" McGonagall paused for a moment, then gently shook her head and said, "I'm not questioning your abilities, Miss Hamilton."
"Your ability to create such a magic array item already proves your talent."
"But..." McGonagall sighed, looking at Loila, who was pale and shaking her head in denial of her talents. "But you need to understand the courses that are suitable for Hogwarts students."
"You understand?" Loila was taken aback.
"Hmm," McGonagall thought for a moment and said, "Perhaps you could audit some of the other professors' classes."
"There should be a few days until your next Defense Against the Dark Arts class, right?"
"Three...three days..."
"Then I hope you can attend some classes taught by other professors during these three days," McGonagall said slowly. "Perhaps you will gain a better understanding of Hogwarts' teaching methods."
"I...I can't...I can't..." Loila felt she absolutely couldn't do it, like walking into someone else's classroom to sit in on something!
She was sure she would attract the attention of a lot of students! In the past few days, even just going to the toilet, Loila had encountered countless students greeting her.
The repeated greetings of "Hello, Professor Hamilton!" were almost enough to get her to Mrs. Pomfrey.
Seeing Loila's resistant expression, McGonagall pursed her lips and said, "Since the professor's method won't work... let's try the student's method."
"The students'...method?" Loila was stunned.
"Hmm." McGonagall slowly rose and walked to the door. "I will explain this situation to the other professors."
"You just need to listen to the lectures along with the other students." As she spoke, she noticed the slightly resistant expression on Loila's face and couldn't help but think of the method Dumbledore had told her.
"Miss Hamilton, I trust you completely," she said, emphasizing each word. "I hope you won't let me down."
"Disappointed...?"
"How...how could this be..." Upon hearing this word, Loila trembled and said, "I'll go...I'll go to class!"
"Clatter"
As the office door closed, Loila slumped to the floor like a deflated balloon… she had been trusted again…
But this kind of thing...
Loila pursed her lips and looked at the class schedule.
The class closest to me...
It's Mr. Lockhart's Defense Against the Dark Arts class...
Thinking of that sunny and cheerful man, Loila took a deep breath and clenched her fist.
I can't let Professor McGonagall down!
I need to learn Mr. Lockhart's teaching methods carefully!
Minerva McGonagall, pleased that Loila had accepted her advice, was unaware that her most troublesome Professor Lockhart might actually become two.
