Chapter 7 Change, True Integration
Chapter 7 Change, True Integration
At four in the morning, three green vines stretched out. One gently lifted the little wizard's blanket, another rolled up the clothes that the little wizard was going to wear that day, which had been washed and cleaned by the house-elves, and brought them to the side of the bed. The third vine gently patted the little wizard's arm to wake him up.
The little wizard instantly woke up; six hours of deep sleep was enough to wash away yesterday's fatigue and start a new day full of energy.
"Thank you, Milov."
The vines gently brushed against Owen's face before disappearing back into the shadows of the corner.
Miloff is neither a person nor an animal, but a devil vine given to him by Professor Sprout. When it was still a small seedling, it was kept in the house. Whenever Owen had free time, he would chat with it and even gave it a name.
Perhaps because of its name, Miloff is different from other Devil Vines. Although it doesn't like sunlight, it's not aggressive. It's very friendly to Owen and shows no aggression towards any creature that gets close to him.
Most importantly, it is very punctual. Every day, it is the little wizard who is reminded to get up on time.
After washing up, taking care of his personal hygiene, and putting on clothes that smelled of jasmine, Owen smiled and said, "Thank you, Leah."
"Snapped!"
A house-elf appeared and smiled at Owen, saying, "It's my pleasure to serve you, please don't be shy."
Owen walked over and gently hugged her: "Only you, Leah, know that I like the scent of jasmine."
The little elf Leah excitedly wiped away her tears: "You are the only wizard who remembers our names and is willing to celebrate our birthdays. It is only right that we serve you, sir. Would you like soy milk and fried dough sticks for breakfast?"
"Of course, Mr. Bass's cooking is absolutely superb. I love it and never get tired of it."
The little elf vanished with a "snap," wanting to convey Mr. Owen's praise to Bath, so that it could share in its joy.
"Good morning, Mr. Filch and Mrs. Lorris."
Good morning, Mr. Irving.
"Meow!"
If it were someone else, Filch wouldn't have responded at all; he would have just grabbed the person and then had the professor put them in solitary confinement!
At four in the morning, everyone except Owen was out at night, so there was no need to distinguish them. In Filch's mind, Owen was different from the other young wizards.
He would help me clean the castle, chase after mischievous students with me, and tattle with me to the professor. He was also the only little wizard who was willing to speak up for me in front of the professor and the headmaster.
Of course, Lady Lorice also liked the little wizard very much.
"Good morning!"
"Snapped!"
When passing by Black Lake, Owen greeted the giant squid as usual. Previously, it would shake its tentacles, but one day, after seeing Owen and the Whomping Willow give each other a high five, its greeting changed from shaking its tentacles to giving a high five.
"Good morning!"
"Snapped!"
The willow tree never misses its morning greeting.
"Good morning!"
"Woof!"
Needless to say, Yaya was woken up by Hagrid's snoring again; otherwise, it wouldn't have gotten up so early.
Time changes, but at Hogwarts, it's as if time stands still. There are always some unchanging things and objects that bring a sense of peace.
It was just an ordinary morning run, but it gave the young wizard a new insight. When he met each professor, he would give them a hug and then sincerely say thank you to them, amidst their surprised looks.
It wasn't until he hugged Dumbledore that the old man laughed and wiped away tears, because he could feel that the young wizard had only now truly integrated into Hogwarts and the wizarding world.
He had worked very hard before, but that hard work stemmed from panic. He was like a fawn suddenly appearing in an unfamiliar environment, feeling surrounded by danger, and had no choice but to work hard.
Dumbledore understood and didn't interfere, because a sense of security is something that others can't give you; you have to find it yourself.
Now, the young wizard has changed. The unease and anxiety he had when he first arrived are no longer visible in his eyes; instead, he has become calm.
Of course, there were also some worrying things. The little wizard's magic power increased again after his mindset changed...
Dumbledore didn't know whether this was a good thing or a bad thing, but teaching young wizards some magic-consuming spells had to be put on the agenda.
So, what kind of magic lasts a long time, consumes a lot of magic power, but doesn't have a negative impact on young wizards?
When Dumbledore relayed the decision, all the professors expressed their dissatisfaction.
"Isn't it a bit too early?" Professor McGonagall thought it was too fast to let the young wizard be exposed to Patronus Charms now. How old was Owen? It was too much of a stretch to let him be exposed to such difficult magic.
"What kind of secret do you think he has that he needs to keep? Is it just that pitifully small amount of knowledge?"
When Snape heard that the young wizard was to learn Occlumency and Legilimency, he felt that Dumbledore was being impersonated. If he hadn't taken a big bite of sweets in front of everyone... Dumbledore would have been out by now.
"I don't want this either, but..." Dumbledore sighed, "If we can't deplete his magic in large quantities, then I'm afraid even I won't be able to control him."
Everyone was startled, then fell silent, and finally sighed in unison. In all these years, this was the first time they had been troubled by the little wizard's excessive magic power; they had never experienced this before.
It was precisely because there was no precedent to follow that Dumbledore's approach was accepted. Among these people, he was the oldest, had lived the longest, and had the most experience, so his method was likely to be the most effective.
Regardless, Owen was delighted to hear that he could learn new, and powerful, magic, but the new magic was indeed challenging for him.
Occlumency and Legilimency are fine, but the Guardian Charm requires a happy emotion, not just ordinary happiness, but a certain level of happiness, which... is very difficult.
Owen is not a normal little wizard. He has happy memories, but whenever he recalls those happy memories, endless sorrow follows. The happier the memories, the heavier the sorrow.
There's no good solution, we can only try to overcome it. Fortunately, there's no rush.
As the saying goes, without comparison, there is no harm.
The professors were worried about Irving's ever-increasing magical power, but when they turned around, they saw other students having various minor accidents due to insufficient magical power, which made them feel even worse.
Snape became even more stern, Professor McGonagall lost her smile, Professor Flitwick started criticizing people, and even the most amiable Professor Sprout began deducting points.
The students at Hogwarts felt like the sky was falling!
