Chapter 247 My Daughter Is Not a Bargaining Chip

Lin Xiaoyan came in carrying a bag.

He looked at Shen Feiwan with a hint of doting in his eyes, "I brought some barbecue. I remember you like beef skewers and grilled squid, slightly spicy."

Shen Feiwan glanced at him, her eyes cold. "Did I say you could bring it?"

Lin Xiaoyan smiled gently, "It was my own decision."

His lips curled up, a smile blooming on his excessively handsome face, with even the corners of his eyes and eyebrows radiating amusement.

"But these are all your favorite foods. You shouldn't let the food go to waste just because I didn't ask for your opinion."

Shen Feiwan ignored him and started walking upstairs, saying, "Stop lecturing me."

Lin Xiaoyan quickly followed, and the two entered Shen Feiwan's study one after the other.

The moment the study door closed, Shen Feiwan leaned back in her leather chair. "Plan."

Lin Xiaoyan was clearly in a good mood today, with a smile always on his lips, as if Shen Feiwan's indifference had no effect on him at all.

She sat down opposite Shen Feiwan, her slender fingers unbuttoning her suit jacket, looking at Shen Feiwan with tender eyes and speaking earnestly.

"I'll get Shen Xingyan out first." — Shen Xingyan is Shen Feiwan's second brother.

Shen Feiwan tapped her fingertips lightly on the armrest, a glint of light flashing in her eyes, but it was quickly replaced by a cold expression.

She narrowed her eyes, her tone tinged with skepticism, "This isn't part of the plan."

“Of course not,” Lin Xiaoyan chuckled, leaning forward suddenly. “This is proof of my sincerity and strength.”

He looked at Shen Feiwan, speaking slowly and deliberately, "A meticulous plan requires detailed planning, involving too many things. You are now a member of the Shen family, not on the same boat as me, so I can't tell you everything..."

He drew out the last syllable of his sentence with a meaningful tone.

Shen Feiwan gave a cold laugh.

Lin Xiaoyan continued, "But Wanwan, once you become Mrs. Lin, sharing both honor and disgrace with me, and becoming husband and wife, I will naturally tell you everything without reservation."

He paused for a moment, then said, "I'm only asking you now, do you want Shen Xingyan to come out?"

Shen Feiwan glanced at him and said, "Nonsense."

No sooner had he finished speaking than there was a knock on the door.

Lin Xiaoyan immediately stood up, smoothing the wrinkles on his suit trousers with his slender fingers. "It should be the teacher."

Shen Feiwan scoffed lightly, "Nonsense, is there anyone else in this house right now?"

Lin Xiaoyan ignored her retort, simply straightened his cuffs, and walked towards the door with a faint smile on his lips. "I'll go open the door."

If he wanted to do the work, then let him do it. Shen Feiwan didn't try to take it from him; she just stood up as well.

The door opened, and Shen Mo wasn't surprised to see Lin Xiaoyan. A knowing glint flashed in his eyes. "Xiaoyan, why are you here so late?"

Before Lin Xiaoyan could answer, Shen Feiwan quickly stepped forward and took Shen Mo's arm. "I asked him to come." She led her father into the study. "We're discussing something, Dad."

Shen Mo sat down in the spot where Shen Feiwan had just been sitting; the leather sofa still retained some warmth.

He looked up at his daughter, his brows furrowing slightly. "What did you call Xiaoyan over to discuss in the middle of the night? Why didn't you tell me?"

Shen Feiwan sat down on the armrest of the sofa. "Dad, we didn't intend to hide it from you. We were just planning to tell you after we'd discussed it."

Shen Mo's gaze shifted between the two men before finally settling on his daughter's face. "Have you two reached an agreement?"

"We only discussed half of it." This time, Lin Xiaoyan spoke before Shen Feiwan, his tone tinged with apology. "I originally wanted to be more serious about the other half. But the timing isn't right now, so I can only..."

Before Lin Xiaoyan could finish speaking, Shen Mo suddenly raised his hand to interrupt him. He looked at Lin Xiaoyan with piercing eyes, "Are you trying to talk about marrying Wanwan?" His voice deepened, "Xiaoyan, I'm grateful that you're willing to help the teacher's family. But my daughter is not a bargaining chip."

Lin Xiaoyan remained unfazed. "Teacher is joking. How could Wanwan be a bargaining chip?"

He turned to Shen Feiwan, his eyes tender, "Marriage is a mutual decision between Wanwan and me."

"Is that so?" Shen Mo turned to examine his daughter, his gaze revealing an undeniable authority.

Shen Feiwan met her father's gaze without flinching. "Yes, Dad. Marriage is a big deal. How could Lin Xiaoyan say such things in front of you?"

Lin Xiaoyan looked at Shen Feiwan and extended his hand to her.

Without the slightest hesitation, Shen Feiwan immediately placed her hand gently on Lin Xiaoyan's large palm.

The moment their hands met, Shen Feiwan smiled at Shen Mo and said, "Lin Xiaoyan and I have made up."

Shen Mo looked at his daughter's smiling eyes and felt a tightness in his chest.

No one knows a daughter better than her father, and Shen Mo certainly knew that Shen Feiwan was just putting on an act.

He came here to stop her from sacrificing herself.

He suddenly stood up, stood between the two, and slowly said to Lin Xiaoyan, "It's too late now. Xiaoyan, you should go back first. Wanwan and I still have some things to talk about."

Lin Xiaoyan's gaze lingered on Shen Feiwan's face for a moment before turning to Shen Mo, and he nodded slightly. "Okay, teacher. It is indeed very late. I won't disturb you any longer. I will visit you another day."

After he finished speaking, he looked at Shen Feiwan again.

Under the warm yellow light, his deep-set eyes softened with a touch of gentleness, yet carried an undeniable forcefulness. "Wanwan, I'll be going now."

“Okay,” Shen Feiwan replied, standing up indifferently. “I’ll see you off. Let’s go, don’t just stand there.”

She took the first step, with Lin Xiaoyan following closely behind her.

Shen Feiwan escorted Lin Xiaoyan all the way to the door.

At the entrance hall on the first floor, Lin Xiaoyan turned around, his gaze sweeping past Shen Feiwan and into the room, "How about we go outside and talk for a bit?"

Shen Feiwan silently pushed open the door. The night wind blew up the stray hairs at her temples. She pulled her clothes closer and found a sheltered spot to stand.

Lin Xiaoyan followed closely behind, stopping in front of the steps to shield Shen Feiwan from the wind. The overhead light outlined his tall and straight profile. "Since we're getting married, it's not appropriate to call me by my full name in public anymore."

He lowered his voice, "I still prefer to hear you call me Brother Xiaoyan. Or you can just call me Xiaoyan."

Shen Feiwan glanced at him sideways, "That's three sentences."

After saying that, she turned to go back.

Lin Xiaoyan suddenly grabbed her wrist, the force just right, "You won't change your mind, will you?"

Under the lights, the smile on his lips remained unchanged.

Shen Feiwan shook off his hand, her fingernails slicing a red mark across the back of his hand. "Going back on your word now?" she said. "Get my second brother out of here first." As she turned, the hem of her skirt drew a resolute arc in the air.

Shen Feiwan glanced at him sideways, then suddenly smiled, "Going back on your word now? What's the point of me then? You should get my second brother out first."

After saying that, Shen Feiwan shook off Lin Xiaoyan's hand.

He turned around, went inside, and closed the door.

Shen Feiwan's movements were swift and seamless.

But when she turned around, she saw her father standing silently in the living room, waiting for her.
