Chapter 476 - 478: Heartwarming Daily Life Special (Part 3)
"My leg is much better now. I can stand for a few minutes, though it starts to hurt if I’m up too long."
Leo Lennox said, "I’ll take you out to the garden in a little while. We won’t stand for too long. Your leg needs some proper exercise to heal faster."
Rose Kenway smiled. "Alright. If it weren’t for you, I never would have believed I’d be able to stand again."
"It makes me even more grateful that I studied medicine," Leo Lennox said with emotion.
"Oh, by the way..." Rose Kenway suddenly remembered something. "How come I’ve never heard you mention your wife or children? What do they do for work? If possible, maybe they could meet Nina and get to know each other."
Leo Lennox’s heart leaped into his throat. He couldn’t help but give a bitter smile, forcing himself to appear calm. "I... I don’t have a wife or children."
Rose Kenway was slightly surprised. "After all these years, you never got married?"
"That’s right..." Leo Lennox lowered his head slightly, wondering how to make his excuse sound plausible. "I just never met the right person. And you know me, I’m used to being on my own. Getting married would feel... constraining, so I never did. And, well, I’ve always thought of Nina as my own daughter. I don’t feel lonely."
Rose Kenway said, "I know you were the one who helped me take care of Nina all this time I was gone. I don’t know how I can ever thank you... Really, whether you get married or not doesn’t matter. I’ve come to terms with it now. As long as it’s the lifestyle you want, that’s all that matters."
"There’s no need for thanks. We always said we’d be good friends for life. Besides, having a sweet and caring daughter like Nina is a blessing for me."
He adjusted his glasses. Fine wrinkles crinkled at the corners of his eyes, but his features remained handsome and refined. Over the years, time had been exceptionally kind to him, polishing him to be even more charming and giving him a unique appeal.
While Rose Kenway was lost in thought, she heard a servant’s voice at the door. She looked up and saw that Naomi Kenway and her family had arrived.
She immediately waved them over, chiding affectionately, "Oh, my silly girl, the wind is so strong, and you were just standing out there? Why didn’t you say anything when you arrived? Come here, quickly!"
"We’re wearing pretty thick coats today. Mostly, I saw you and Uncle Lennox having such a nice chat, I couldn’t bear to interrupt," Naomi Kenway said with a smile as she walked over.
Rose Kenway took Naomi’s hand, holding it just like she did when Naomi was a child, trying to warm it. "You silly child, just as silly as when you were little. Your hands are freezing, and you still say you’re not cold."
She then felt little Ian’s hand. "Come, Ian, let Grandma see if your hands are cold."
Rose Kenway said in surprise, "Ian’s hands aren’t cold at all! They’re so warm, like a little sun."
"Ian will help warm Mommy up too!" Ian said, leaning over to grab Naomi’s hands and rubbing them vigorously. "Friction makes heat! Mommy, are you any warmer?"
Ethan Shaw took off his own coat and draped it over Naomi, asking softly, "How about now? A little warmer?"
"I’m not cold, it’s just my hands and feet that are a little chilly. Quick, put your coat back on. It’s too cold to only wear a shirt."
Ethan Shaw shook his head. "I’ve already asked the driver to bring my other coat. Don’t worry about me, Nina."
During dinner, Rose Kenway asked Naomi about the wedding preparations.
"Making the wedding dress is taking a while, so we need to wait another half a month. We’ve already picked the venue—it’s by the sea. We can have a lively party there too," Naomi said.
Rose Kenway nodded with a smile. "Good. Have all the invitations been sent out?"
"They’ve all been sent."
Rose Kenway smiled wistfully. "My baby girl’s wedding is next month. Mommy is so, so happy. I missed your last wedding, but I won’t miss this one. Not this time, and not for any day that follows. Mommy will be right by your side, completely and always."
After they finished talking about the wedding plans, Rose Kenway mentioned that she was planning to travel after Naomi’s wedding.
"I’ve always had this plan to travel the world, but it kept getting delayed by so many things. Now that my heart is much calmer, I feel more and more that enjoying life is what’s most important. I’ll go traveling after your wedding. The first stop will be Ydria. The scenery there is beautiful."
Naomi was naturally supportive of this. "You should take lots of pictures to share with me. When I have some free time, I’ll come find you and we can travel together."
Ever since winning the award, Naomi’s schedule had become increasingly packed. While she was a little exhausted, she was also deeply fulfilled, because she was pursuing a career she loved.
"Alright." Rose Kenway placed some food on Naomi’s plate. "Eat more. Look at you, you’ve gotten thin again. Is it because you’re too busy with the company and the entertainment industry?"
Rose Kenway caressed Naomi’s cheek, her heart aching. "Are you under a lot of pressure?"
"Not really," Naomi said. "I have people helping me manage the company, so I only handle the major planning. And my work in the entertainment industry isn’t that tiring. When I was little, I used to dream of being a big star, and I’m so happy that my dream has finally come true."
"Mom, you don’t need to worry so much. Just stay by my side, that’s all I need."
Naomi squeezed Rose Kenway’s hand.
Rose Kenway smiled and said, "I’ve prepared a lot of jewelry for you for the wedding. Would you like to come upstairs with me and take a look in a bit?"
"Okay."
After dinner, Naomi went upstairs with Rose Kenway, while Ethan Shaw stayed behind to chat with Leo Lennox, with Ian in tow.
In the bedroom, Rose Kenway took out several exquisitely designed boxes. They looked a little old-fashioned, as if they had some age to them.
"I’ve kept this jewelry for a long time. I always planned to give it to you when you got married, but I never expected..." Rose Kenway curved her lips into a smile. "But that’s all in the past now, so I won’t bring up those sad memories. Thankfully, heaven has given me a chance to make up for my regrets and watch my baby girl get married."
She opened the jewelry box, revealing a gemstone ring and necklace of the highest quality. The design was elegant and magnificent, looking priceless at a glance.
"Thank goodness I locked them in the safe. It would have been bad if Jackson Kensington had gotten his hands on them. Come, Nina, let me help you put them on."
Naomi tried on each piece of jewelry before carefully placing them back in their boxes.
"On the day of the wedding, could you be the one to put them on me?"
"Of course."
The mother and daughter shared a smile.
The bedroom was cozy and warm. Naomi held Rose Kenway’s hand, feeling a deep reluctance to part. "Mom, it’s been so long since I’ve slept with you. I miss you so much. Can I sleep with you tonight? We can have Ethan Shaw take Ian to my old room."
"Of course," Rose Kenway said softly.
Naomi threw her arms around Rose Kenway and hugged her gently.
The long-lost warmth made her feel an urge to cry.
