Chapter 350: Inter-Academy Tournament (II)
Chapter 350: Inter-Academy Tournament (II)
"Like the time we—"
Before Ronan could continue his endless yap, a powerful voice echoed across the grand arena, amplified by magic to reach every corner.
"ALL ACADEMIES, GATHER AT YOUR DESIGNATED ZONES!"
The referee, a tall, imposing figure in official robes, stood on a floating platform above the central stage.
His voice boomed with authority.
"The Inter-Academy Exchange is about to officially begin! Students, please assemble with your academy representatives immediately. No delays!"
The arena erupted into organized chaos as students from every academy began moving toward their assigned areas.
Banners fluttered as groups reformed, the excitement and tension in the air becoming almost palpable.
Ronan groaned dramatically, still trying to cling to Gray’s sleeve.
"Nooo! We were just getting to the good part! I had at least five more stories ready! The time we fought the giant slime monster! The time I almost won a bet against Leon! The time—"
Gray simply placed a hand on Ronan’s head and pushed him gently but firmly toward the Gloria Academy group.
"Go. We’ll talk later."
Ronan pouted but finally relented, waving dramatically as he jogged back toward his academy’s area.
"Fine! But you owe me stories too! Don’t forget your best bro!"
Selene gave Gray one last warm smile and a quick, discreet squeeze of his hand before following.
"See you on the field," she whispered.
Selina nodded with a small, confident smile.
"Looking forward to seeing you compete, Gray."
Claire, still surprisingly bold, gave him a quick hug.
"Don’t hold back out there," she said with a wink.
As they all moved back to their respective groups, Gray stood alone for a moment, watching the movement of thousands of students.
Maelis waved excitedly one last time from Gloria’s side before being pulled along by her group.
Seraph, who had been standing quietly nearby, stepped closer to Gray.
The referee’s voice boomed across the arena once more, amplified by powerful magic to reach every corner.
"ATTENTION ALL ACADEMIES! THE FIRST CHALLENGE OF THE INTER-ACADEMY EXCHANGE IS NOW REVEALED!"
A hush fell over the massive crowd as everyone turned their attention to the central floating platform where the referee stood.
"The first challenge will be an Island Survival Challenge! Each academy will be transported to a specially prepared island filled with dangers, resources, and hidden flags. The team that gathers the most flags within three days will be declared the winner of this challenge. Additionally, the academy with the fewest flags at the end will be eliminated from the overall competition!"
A wave of shocked murmurs and excited whispers spread through the arena.
The referee continued.
"You will have fifteen minutes to prepare. Royal soldiers will provide each team with basic survival resources such as tents, basic weapons, food rations, and healing potions. No external illegal objects or high-grade utility are allowed beyond what you carry on your person. The island is vast, filled with beasts, traps, and environmental hazards. Teamwork, strategy, and adaptability will be key. Good luck to all participants."
He raised his hand, and a massive projection screen appeared in the sky, showing a detailed map of the island containing dense forests, mountains, rivers, and hidden zones marked with question marks.
"May the preparation begin!"
Instantly, the arena erupted into organized chaos. Each academy’s professors gathered their students into tight circles, discussing strategies with intense focus.
At Clementine’s Sword & Magic Academy, Aurora stood at the center of the Phoenix Class group, her presence commanding as she spoke quickly and clearly.
"We don’t know the exact layout, but the island is large. Focus on securing a safe base first, then split into small teams to hunt flags. Gray, you’re our strongest asset, use your mobility and Soul Chasing Extremities to scout and secure high-value areas. Seraph, your Spirit Eyes will be crucial for detecting hidden dangers and resources. Everyone else, stay in pairs or trios. Do not engage in unnecessary fights. Survival and flag collection are the priorities. We cannot afford to be the first eliminated."
The students nodded, some looking nervous, others excited. Honestly though, Gray had ignored everything she had said because he had a plan himself.
Meanwhile, at Gloria Academy, Headmistress Gloria was speaking with similar intensity to her students, including Maelis, Cassandra, Selene, Selina, Claire, Ronan, Adrian, and Leon.
"Stay focused. We have strong talents. Use them wisely. Maelis, your gravity magic will be useful for crowd control and quick flag grabs. Cassandra, your soul weapon is going to be extremely important. Selene, your water magic abilities will give us an edge in water zones. Do not underestimate Clementine’s students, especially Gray. He is dangerous. Avoid direct confrontation with him unless necessary."
Ronan, still rubbing his face from Gray’s earlier kick, grinned despite the pain.
"Don’t worry, Headmistress! I’ll be the best support ever! I’ll cheer everyone on and tell funny stories to keep morale high!"
Adrian remained silent, his eyes cold as he glanced toward Gray’s group.
Leon stood with his arms crossed, looking confident but tense.
Across the arena, other academies were doing the same, strategizing, assigning roles, and preparing mentally for the unknown island.
The fifteen minutes passed quickly.
Royal soldiers began distributing the basic resources: sturdy backpacks with tents, basic weapons, dried food, water skins, and low-grade healing potions. Each academy received the same standard kit, ensuring extreme fairness.
As the time ticked down, the referee’s voice rang out again.
"PREPARATION TIME IS OVER! ALL PARTICIPANTS, PREPARE FOR TRANSPORT TO THE ISLAND!"
Massive teleportation arrays lit up across the arena floor. Students from all academies stepped onto their designated circles, the air humming with powerful spatial magic.
Swooosh...!
The teleportation magic activated with a brilliant flash of light.
The world around Gray blurred for a brief moment, the grand arena disappearing in an instant as spatial energy enveloped him and the rest of Clementine’s students.
When the light faded, Gray found himself standing on soft, sandy ground.
The air was warm and humid, carrying the salty scent of the sea and the rich aroma of dense jungle vegetation.
Tall palm trees and thick tropical foliage surrounded them, with the sound of distant waves crashing against the shore and the occasional cry of exotic birds filling the air.
Each academy had been sent to a different corner of the massive island.
Clementine’s Sword & Magic Academy was alone in their designated starting zone, a wide beach area that gradually gave way to dense jungle and rocky hills in the distance.
No other students were visible nearby.
The four classes of the 2nd year stood together now, roughly two hundred students in total, all wearing the academy’s uniform with minor variations based on their class specialties.
This challenge was divided strictly by year, only the 2nd years from each academy were participating in this particular trial.
The first years, third years, and fourth years were elsewhere, likely facing their own challenges or waiting their turn.
Of course, elimination worked on a per-year basis.
If the first year of Clementine’s was eliminated, it didn’t automatically eliminate the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th years.
The academy as a whole would only be fully eliminated if all four years failed their respective challenges.
Conversely, as long as even one year survived and performed well, it could carry the entire academy’s overall standing.
Gray had been assigned as the overall leader for Clementine’s 2nd-year students by Aurora before the teleport.
It was a natural choice, his strength and reputation made him the obvious pick.
The problem was... Gray didn’t want to bother with this at all.
Commanding two hundred students, coordinating strategies, and babysitting a large group sounded like a massive headache.
He was far more interested in simply eliminating the other students.
After all, if you killed someone in this challenge, they wouldn’t actually die, they would just be permanently eliminated from the tournament, unable to return even if their year somehow advanced.
This was another important mechanic of the event. An eliminated student was out for good, regardless of their year’s performance.
Since they were two hundred students to command, Gray directly spoke out, his voice carrying clearly across the beach area thanks to a simple amplification spell.
"Divide yourselves into groups. The size can be whatever you want. After that, choose a leader for that same group. You guys have five minutes."
Instantly, the whole 2nd year obediently started forming groups.
Students moved quickly, some forming tight-knit teams of four or five, others creating larger squads of ten or more.
Though... the Phoenix Class, the elite class that contained all the female talents of the 2nd year, was particularly noticeable.
Nearly all forty-nine girls in the class were blatantly staring at Gray with shimmering, hopeful eyes.
It was clear they wanted to be part of Gray’s personal group.
Gray sighed inwardly.
He didn’t exactly want to command forty-nine people directly.
That would be exhausting.
So, he gave a helpless gaze toward Seraph, who understood instantly what he meant.
She smiled faintly and stepped forward, taking charge of organizing the Phoenix Class girls into smaller, manageable teams while ensuring Gray’s own group remained small and efficient.
The five minutes passed quickly.
By the end, the 2nd-year students had formed roughly thirty groups of varying sizes.
Gray ended up with a core team of seven: himself, Seraph, and five other reliable students who were skilled in scouting, combat, and support.
The rest of the academy was ready to move out under their chosen leaders.
