Chapter 12 Not a man
Chapter 12 Not a man
Zhao Tianchuan readily agreed: "Okay."
Tiger Two ran to the window again and looked outside: "Big Brother, you can see the moon and stars from here, they're so damn bright!"
Tiger Two said happily, "That's wonderful! I love our home!"
Li Shuchen was taken aback by these words. Yes, this could be considered a home, just like the apartment she used to rent—small, cramped, but she was happy.
Zhao Tianchuan was overjoyed, smiling as he watched his underlings lie down on the bed, touch the blankets, and listen to their silly remarks. He felt incredibly relaxed.
With a place to stay secured, he, as the eldest brother, could say he had done his duty to his brothers.
In the small capital city, it's truly remarkable to find such accommodations in a shared dormitory room for thirty coins a night.
Therefore, he was especially grateful to Li Shuchen and clasped his hands in a fist salute to her, saying, "Miss Li is very righteous."
Li Shuchen returned the greeting: "Brother Zhao is truly a righteous man."
Seeing their happiness, Li Shuchen felt a surge of joy himself and handed the two keys to Scarface.
Li Shuchen: "Here's the key. Rooms three and four are shared rooms, both for you. If you need anything, just let me or Manager Xu know. You should get some rest."
Zhao Tianchuan bowed and said, "Miss Li, please take care."
After speaking, he coughed, and his underlings immediately stood at attention, cupped their hands, and said to Li Shuchen, "Please take care, Miss Li."
Li Shuchen walked away with a smile on his face. After sitting down in the guest room and drinking a cup of tea, a voice appeared in his mind.
Happiness level +20
Li Shuchen raised an eyebrow. Their happiness level was quite high, and it was clear they were genuinely happy.
The hotel has been packed with guests these past few days; all the dorm rooms are full, and many of the other rooms are also occupied. Li Shuchen is very happy.
At noon on March 14th, Li Shuchen ate sweet and sour pork ribs, scrambled eggs with chives, spinach soup, and two bowls of rice.
Feeling uncomfortably full, I took some grapes out to help digest my food. Just as I reached the end of Ping'an Lane, I heard a loud "bang," like a bowl breaking, followed by a loud noise.
"You eat wild vegetables every day, every single day, not a single piece of meat in sight. Can't you earn more money? I think you want to starve me to death."
Many people were drawn by the sound, and Li Shuchen followed the crowd.
Inside the door, a woman knelt on the ground, her eyes vacant and her expression numb. Li Shuchen stared intently at her.
Isn't this Aunt Zhang from the temple? The ground is a mess, bowls are broken everywhere. What happened?
Li Shuchen wanted to see which man was so heartless.
Standing at the entrance to the main room was a fat middle-aged man with thick, bushy eyebrows that looked like weeds, a prominent forehead, and a face full of fat.
The portly man, seeing that the woman had no reaction, became even angrier and grabbed a broom from the side, ready to hit her.
Li Shuchen rushed forward and blocked the man's arm with her hand, then the man's arm suddenly dropped.
The man paused for a moment, then pointed at Li Shuchen with his other hand, his eyes wide with anger, and said, "Where did this bitch come from? What did she do to me?"
Li Shuchen immediately put on an innocent face: "You're joking. What could I, a weak and defenseless sixteen-year-old girl in the prime of my youth, possibly do to you?"
Li Shuchen shrugged and continued, "So many people were watching, I didn't do anything."
Actually, it was a small stun gun that Li Shuchen had just bought from Xiao Jizi, and he had shocked him.
Wang Ergou hadn't actually seen anything, but he felt a tingling sensation in his arm. With so many people outside the door, he couldn't make a scene, so he simply flung his hand away and said, "Hmph."
He then pointed at Aunt Zhang and cursed, "You only earn this little bit of money a day? Who's going to eat that?"
"You've been married for three years, and you haven't given me a single child. You can't earn money, and you can't have kids. What use are you to me?"
Something must have touched a nerve with Aunt Zhang; her eyes reddened, and she stood up.
She stared coldly at the pot-bellied man.
The man, his eyebrows as unkempt as wild grass, glared fiercely, muttering, "What are you looking at? You dare glare at me? I'll beat you to death!" He raised his foot to kick the woman.
Li Shuchen immediately pulled away from Aunt Zhang's hand. Aunt Zhang's hands were calloused and rough, and one touch was enough to tell that she had done a lot of hard work every day.
Li Shuchen was even angrier, his voice booming: "You're lazy and good-for-nothing at home, you don't do housework, you don't go out to earn money, you just rely on your wife to support you, and you even beat and scold her, are you even a man?"
"Yeah, is he even a man?"
"What kind of man is that?"
"What a loser."
The people outside were whispering amongst themselves. The middle-aged man, hearing their words, was both annoyed and furious, his face turning fierce.
The burly man, now able to move his arm, rolled up his sleeves and walked towards Li Shuchen, saying as he went, "Who the hell do you think you are, daring to lecture me? I'll beat you to death!"
Li Shuchen remained completely calm, discreetly holding the stun gun in his hand. If Li dared to come any closer, he would shock him again—no, ten times.
Grape was getting anxious and stepped forward to block Li Shuchen, saying, "Miss, please get out of the way!"
Aunt Zhang, who was closer to Li Shuchen, quickly pulled Li Shuchen aside and stood in front of her.
He calmly said, "Let's divorce her. I've had enough of this kind of life."
The man seemed surprised that Aunt Zhang would say such a thing. He stopped rolling up his sleeves, his face still showing some astonishment: "What did you say?"
Aunt Zhang's voice rose several decibels: "Divorce me! I said divorce me!"
Li Shuchen pulled Aunt Zhang aside and said, "Aunt Zhang, what's this talk of divorce? Let's get a divorce."
"Divorce?" Aunt Zhang looked at Li Shuchen in a daze. She had only ever thought about divorcing his wife, never about divorce.
Li Shuchen's eyes were resolute: "Yes, we must divorce. We haven't done anything wrong; he's the one who's wrong." It's good enough that he hasn't divorced her yet.
The portly man grinned wickedly: "Divorce? Dream on. I can divorce you, but you'll have to return my ten taels of silver dowry."
The middle-aged man's face was contorted with a wide, menacing grin, which gave Li Shuchen goosebumps.
Aunt Zhang looked on incredulously: "It was clearly only two ounces, how could it be ten ounces?"
The man with prominent cheekbones glared at her, looking like he wanted to devour her: "I said ten taels, and that's ten taels. Give me the money, and I'll write a divorce agreement right away."
Li Shuchen sneered, "Heh, go ask the yamen for it, Aunt Zhang, let's go."
This guy is disgusting. Give him money, give him two big cannons, and blow him up!
Heartless and treacherous, not a good person.
Li Shuchen led Aunt Zhang away quickly, followed by some neighbors, and the large group arrived at the yamen (government office).
The portly man didn't follow; he was probably scared.
