Chapter 195 Approaching
Chapter 195 Approaching
As night deepened, the noise in the restaurant gradually subsided, and the once lively atmosphere became quiet and profound because of the conversation between the two. Lin Chuyue picked up her wine glass, took a small sip, and found the wine to be somewhat pungent, just like her current mood—complex and elusive.
Li Zhanchuan's gaze remained fixed on her, as if waiting for her to give some kind of response. The steadfastness and concern revealed in his gentleness touched her heart. She knew that such companionship was undoubtedly rare for her, but at the same time, she was also clear in her heart that she could not completely let her guard down.
She gently placed the wine glass back on the table, a faint smile playing on her lips. "Zhan Chuan, you don't need to worry about me so much." Her voice remained calm, yet carried a subtle, almost imperceptible distance. "I've gotten used to facing everything alone."
Upon hearing her words, Li Zhanchuan frowned slightly, a complex emotion flashing in his eyes. He didn't rush to answer, but simply looked at her, as if trying to discern the true thoughts in her eyes. After a long while, he spoke softly, "Chuyue, you always bear too much alone."
Lin Chuyue didn't respond immediately. She looked out the window; the city lights were bright, and cars streamed by, but her heart remained restless. She knew this loneliness had become a habit, a part of her daily life. But now, Zhan Chuan's care and companionship seemed to be shaking her resolve.
She took a deep breath, trying to appear calmer: "Zhan Chuan, we don't need too many emotional ties. You know how unpredictable the business world is; any weakness can become a fatal crisis."
Li Zhanchuan looked at her, his gaze becoming even more resolute: "Chuyue, weaknesses can be turned into strengths, and everyone has vulnerabilities they don't want others to see. You are no exception."
These words were like a gentle touch, instantly striking the softest spot in Lin Chuyue's heart. She paused slightly, lowered her head, and stopped looking at him. She understood that every word he spoke was sincere, but she didn't know how to face it.
The two fell silent for a moment. The food on the table was almost gone, but the atmosphere became even more heavy. Li Zhanchuan reached out and gently brushed a strand of hair behind her ear, his voice low and gentle: "You need to know that no matter what happens, I will be by your side and will not let you face it alone."
Lin Chuyue's heart suddenly raced. She forced herself to control her emotions, avoiding his gaze, her heart filled with complex feelings—warmth mixed with an invisible pressure. She knew that Li Zhanchuan's concern for her had gone beyond the realm of friendship, but she still couldn't let down her guard and accept these feelings as easily as he could.
"Zhanchuan," she said softly, her tone steady and low, "you and I have long since established our own life paths, which cannot be easily changed."
Upon hearing her words, a fleeting hint of disappointment flashed in Li Zhanchuan's eyes, but he quickly concealed it. He didn't say anything more, only nodded slightly, clearly understanding her meaning.
“I understand,” he said softly. “However, whatever you choose, I will support you.”
Lin Chuyue's heart skipped a beat. She suddenly realized that Zhan Chuan's support for her went beyond simple concern. Her gaze unconsciously fell on his face again, and his cold and stern features seemed to soften considerably at that moment.
She couldn't help but feel a little lost. Could Zhan Chuan's care and companionship be the motivation for her to keep going? She knew that on this challenging road, she couldn't avoid the deepening emotional entanglement between herself and Zhan Chuan.
After the meal, the two did not leave immediately, but walked out of the restaurant together. Outside, the night wind was cold, and the city's hustle and bustle continued. However, at this moment, the world around them seemed irrelevant, and all the noise and pressure were shut out in the distance.
Li Zhanchuan stopped and turned slightly to look at Lin Chuyue: "Let me take you back."
Lin Chuyue hesitated for a moment, then finally nodded. She knew that on a night like this, even without speaking, the two of them could walk together in tacit understanding. She no longer refused, but felt a strange mix of disappointment and relief.
The car drove through the night, the city lights flashing past the window like shooting stars. Lin Chuyue leaned back in her seat, closed her eyes, and tried to relax, but Zhan Chuan's words kept echoing in her mind.
The car stopped downstairs at her apartment building. Before getting out, she turned to look at Li Zhanchuan and said, "Thank you, Zhanchuan." Her voice was so soft it was almost inaudible, but it was a genuine expression of gratitude.
Li Zhanchuan smiled slightly, a deep glint in his eyes: "You don't need to thank me." He paused, his gaze lingering on her face for a moment, "Goodnight, Chuyue."
Lin Chuyue pursed her lips, nodded, and turned to walk into the apartment building. A nameless emotion welled up within her again, as if all her feelings were intertwined in that instant, leaving her confused and bewildered.
She knew this relationship was destined to be anything but simple. Zhan Chuan's concern had touched her heart, but she still couldn't easily let down her guard and accept his feelings. And in the days to come, she would face even more challenges and choices; perhaps, the intertwining of fates had only just begun.
