Chapter 10 Meteor
Chapter 10 Meteor
The Thor incident didn't demonstrate particularly strong combat capabilities, but the Rainbow Bridge's interstellar teleportation ability made the five great nations extremely wary.
The five superpowers ordered S.H.I.E.L.D. to restart its research on the Tesseract, and Nick Fury took the opportunity to once again submit his application to form the Avengers.
Unsurprisingly, his application was rejected again.
S.H.I.E.L.D. is too large; its overall combat capabilities even surpass those of France.
Moreover, Nick Fury has a very strong desire for control, and under his leadership, S.H.I.E.L.D. has shown signs of breaking away from the control of the five superpowers.
Of course, another important point is that Nick Fury's selection of the Avengers members is highly problematic.
Black Widow Natasha, Hawkeye Barton, Captain America Steve Rogers, War Machine Rhodes, Iron Man Stark, Hulk, and Healer Vega.
There's not much to say about the first four people; they are all people who can follow orders.
But the unruly Stark, the ticking time bomb Banner, and the believer in equivalent exchange—none of these three are obedient little boys willing to follow orders.
Banner, in particular, could transform into the Hulk at any moment, which is extremely dangerous. The United States is well aware of this—they recently lost a large number of soldiers and had a street destroyed.
Nick Fury also knew that Stark, Vega, Banner, and even Steve Rogers were not people he could control, but without these four, the Avengers would be a joke.
Forming the Avengers had long been his obsession, and he would never back down no matter what hardships he faced.
Just as he was figuring out who to send to Vega after he returned to New York Harbor to inquire about when the auction would resume, Coulson sent an urgent message: the Cosmic Cube was exhibiting abnormal behavior...

"How do you plan to use the palladium microreactor and the Iron Man suit? A lot of people are eyeing those two things."
Under the night sky, Vega, who had been working hard all day, lay on the sofa in the Flybridge area and asked Monica in his arms.
Monica: "I recruited the engineers who built the suit for Obadiah Stan, with the plan to modify the unmanned suit into a wearable one like Stark's."
"I plan to make two series. One series will be equipped with a certain amount of defensive weapons as security equipment, and the other series will only have flight capabilities as a means of transportation."
Vega: "Hasn't the military contacted you?"
Monica: "I did approach them, but I didn't agree. I was afraid that equipping the US military with a large number of armored suits would disrupt the fragile balance between countries."
Vega: "Your idea is great, let's do it."
In reality, the Iron Man suits made using Ivan Vanko's technology won't affect the balance between major powers, but given the predatory nature of the Americans, those resource-rich small countries will definitely suffer even more.
"Let's not talk about these worries," Monica raised her left hand and waved it in front of Vega, staring intently at him as she asked, "When are we getting married?"
Vega is emotionally dense and procrastinates a lot on certain matters. If she (Monica) doesn't take the initiative, they might not even get to hear Vega speak up by the time they have a house full of children and grandchildren.
Vega: "Anytime is fine, whatever you say."
Monica, satisfied with the answer, kissed Vega on the cheek and said decisively, "Okay, let's register tomorrow and have the wedding in three days."
Vega: "Wasn't this too rushed?"
Monica: "No rush. I know you don't like extravagance, so let's keep the wedding simple."
Vega: "Isn't this too unfair to you?"
He was afraid of trouble, but he also didn't want Monica to accommodate him.
Monica shook her head, snuggled back into Vega's arms, and whispered, "I don't care about formalities. The reason I asked for a wedding was just to make you realize that you have a wife now, and you're not alone anymore."
Vega remained silent. Having traveled through time twice and lived for decades, he was finally no longer alone.
The two quieted down, snuggled together, looked at the starry sky, and enjoyed their rare time alone.
Ring ring ring~, Monica's cell phone, which was placed in the main deck lounge below, rang at an inopportune moment.
"I'll go get it for you." Vega said, getting up. Although they weren't married yet, he had already figured out what a good husband was like.
"Don't worry about it." Holding Vega tightly to prevent him from moving, Monica frowned slightly, determined to make that ignorant guy sleep in the sewers.
Vega obediently didn't move, but his phone kept ringing. The call would automatically hang up, and the other party would immediately call back.
A few minutes later, amidst Monica's disgruntled grumbling, Vega got up and went down the stairs to the main deck.
When I got the phone, I saw that the person who had been persistently making calls was Nick Fury.
Nick Fury rarely dealt directly with him and Monica; he always went through Coulson and Natasha.
Vega's heart skipped a beat. Could it be that the thing he had been both worried about and looking forward to had happened?
"Hello, this is Vega Lee."
Nick Fury's anxious voice came through the phone: "Lee, the Tesseract has been stolen by aliens, the research base has self-destructed, and many people are buried underneath. I hope you can save them."
"Address!" Vega's expression calmed down. What he had been waiting for had actually happened. Let him see if what happens next is just like in the movies.
Nick Fury gave him the base's address, and Vega hung up the call and quickly returned to the flybridge.
Seeing Vega's expression, Monica sat up and asked, "Who called?"
"Old black slave," Vega reached out and pulled Mona Kara up, "a very important S.H.I.E.L.D. base was destroyed by invaders, and many people are buried underneath."
"I'm sorry, I need to go check it out on site. You'll have to return to the port yourself."
Monica: "No need to apologize, this is important. Is there anything I can do for you?"
Vega: "This is not a simple matter. Tell George to take Bana and Gwen to the hotel. Keep your phone on, I'll contact you once I understand."
Monica: "I understand. Be careful."
"Don't worry, no one can hurt me." Vega hugged Monica and kissed her forehead, then released her and took two steps back, revealing a suit of silver armor covering his perfect body, which was only wearing shorts.
Nodding to Monica, Vega slowly rose, and a pair of lifelike, enormous golden wings appeared behind him.
He quickly rose to a height of 100 meters, his enormous wings of light slowly unfurled, and with a gentle wave, Vega transformed into a shooting star and flew towards the continent.
Watching the golden figure recede further and further into the night sky, Monica covered her mouth and wept silently...
