Chapter 18 The Storm Has Arrived, Let's Await the Show
The cool breeze of early summer swept across the Kuala Lumpur River, carrying away the unpleasant smell of rotten rubber.
Underneath the bustling food stall, Zhong Liang offered Ye Chen a cigarette, which was snatched away by Aya beside him.
"Gouliang, don't corrupt Chen-ge'er." Aya wasn't afraid of Zhongliang at all and started scolding him right away. She threw the cigarette on the ground and kicked it lightly with her toe, and the cigarette rolled down the road and into the sewer.
"What's it to you? Why are you in such a hurry?" Zhong Liang said with a sneer, not annoyed at all, and lit a cigarette.
"Chen-ge'er is a promising talent, I have to keep an eye on him, lest those young girls in the shop snatch him away." Aya smiled radiantly.
Zhong Liang said sarcastically to Aya, "I understand. You mean Brother Chen isn't fully grown yet, and you'll eat him once he's fully grown. If he's not fully grown, you'll throw him away to someone else! You really are a top salesman, making a business with no capital."
"Don't talk nonsense. No matter how well he's grown up, he's still Aya's good little brother." Aya didn't respond, skillfully deflecting the question.
Ye Chen remained silent, his gaze darting back and forth between the pots in the hands of the two food stall chefs. Only after Aya finished calling him "good little brother" did he raise his head, his eyes filled with the earnestness typical of a tech geek, and say, "Brother Liang, Aya."
His voice wasn't loud, but it drew the attention of the two people arguing.
Ye Chen's eyes lit up as he asked, "What do you think would happen if our phones got faster and faster with use, while Da Di's phone got slower and slower?"
Zhong Liang was taken aback, not following Ye Chen's train of thought. Aya blinked: "Huh? What kind of phone gets faster the more you use it?"
"I mean," Ye Chen's face was almost bursting with excitement as his gaze swept over the two of them and landed on the two chefs' ladles, "that if we make our phones run smoother and smoother, then Da Di's phone will seem to get slower and slower."
Zhong Liang followed Ye Chen's gaze to the two chefs, and Ye Chen continued, "The uncle over there doesn't seem to be slow at all when he cooks alone, but once you compare him to the Hakka uncle here, do you think he becomes slower?"
Zhong Liang snapped angrily, "Speak like a human being!"
Aya seemed to understand, and she asked, "Brother Chen, do you mean there's technology that can make our phones run smoother the more we use them?"
"Yes! There's room for optimization; we can streamline the internal processes." Ye Chen's eyes shone even brighter. "We don't need to confront Da Di head-on; let's take our time."
"Explain further." Zhong Liang sensed a business opportunity and his interest was piqued immediately.
Ye Chen didn't respond to Zhong Liang, but instead turned to look at Aya, whose gaze also fell on him. Ye Chen didn't avoid her gaze; he extended his right hand to Aya, and Aya placed her hand in his.
Ye Chen withdrew his hand somewhat embarrassedly and said, "Lend me your phone."
Aya was taken aback for a moment, then burst into laughter, pulled the N73 from her handbag, and slapped it into Ye Chen's hand: "Here you go, here you go."
Ye Chen didn't detect the slight resentment in Aya's tone. He quickly took Aya's phone with both hands and checked it with some concern. Aya became even angrier and said, "A phone isn't that delicate."
Zhong Liang laughed heartily from the side: "Brother Chen, you don't understand Aya's charm."
Ye Chen had already hacked Aya's phone and was very familiar with it. After he turned on the screen and entered the password, the phone entered the menu.
Zhong Liang was stunned. He said, "You even know my phone password? Tsk tsk. Let's open the photo album first."
Aya grabbed a handful of peanuts and threw them at Zhong Liang, somewhat annoyed: "Be serious."
Ye Chen ignored the two's jokes and banter. His eyes were only on the 2.4-inch screen of the N73. He quickly operated the joystick, and instead of going into the photo album, he went directly to the TaskMan program in the menu bar. After opening it, the screen was full of English text that looked like gibberish.
"Brother Liang, look." Ye Chen turned the screen to Zhong Liang's side, pointing to a line of data. "This is the CPU usage. I've cleaned up Aya's N73, and now the background processes are clean, only running at less than five percent."
He pressed a few more times, bringing up another interface where dozens of English programs were constantly popping up.
"These are all background processes. We can clean up some more. Some of the default programs that we don't usually use are running. Like this one, this one, and this one, we can turn them off." While Zhong Liang was dumbfounded, Ye Chen's fingers moved quickly, and the screen kept jumping.
Zhong Liang pushed the screen away, rubbed his eyes, and said, "Okay, I understand."
Aya rested her chin on her hand, her eyes sparkling as she looked at Ye Chen: "I know too. It's pretty much like sweeping up trash; once it's swept clean, the road becomes wider."
Ye Chen knew that these operations were somewhat complicated for Zhong Liang, but that wasn't important; he only needed to understand their value.
"Brother Chen, could you teach me? I want to learn too," Aya asked.
Zhong Liang glanced at her: "Why are you learning this?"
"Mind your own business." Aya rolled her eyes in response. "More people means more help. Besides, if I learn how, I can help Brother Chen and save him from getting tired."
Ye Chen didn't respond. He handed the phone back to Aya, looked at Zhong Liang, and said seriously, "Brother Liang, we call this customized service Huayu After-Sales Optimization Service."
"Good idea, go on." Zhong Liang's eyes lit up as well.
"We still need to set rules. It can be open to the public. It's free, but there should be a limit, a small number of spots per day..." Ye Chen suddenly had an idea. Just as he finished speaking, Zhong Liang, acting like a student in class, raised his hand and asked, "Didn't you say you were going to do a comparison?"
"Yes, opening it up to the outside world has its advantages. I also have some ways to check DaDi Digital's refurbished machines. We need to start with a few people and slowly uncover one each day, which will amount to thirty in a month. That's how we spread it. DaDi will be finished sooner or later." A shadow of gloom flashed in Ye Chen's eyes as he sought revenge for Yue Sheng.
"How do we expose it?" Zhong Liang asked.
"It's a secret for now," Ye Chen replied.
Zhong Liang didn't press for details; instead, he turned to Aya and asked, "Aya, what do you think?"
Aya then abandoned her languid demeanor, her gaze sharpening, but her answer was unrelated to the question: "They bullied Chen-ge'er so much today, they must get revenge."
Aya suddenly reached out and placed her hand on Ye Chen's clenched fist. Ye Chen was taken aback, feeling that Aya's hand was soft but somewhat cool.
She said, "Brother Shen, Chen Shanhe is a vengeful man. We can think about it more carefully, or if all else fails, we can take it slower."
"Yes, Aya is right. We can't put Brother Chen on the opposite side of Dadi so quickly, otherwise Brother Chen will easily become Chen Shanhe's target." Zhong Liang stroked his stubble and pondered.
Aya thought for a moment and said, "We need to report this to General Manager Liao first and have him cover for us."
The wind by the river suddenly picked up, making the tents overhead rattle loudly; a summer thunderstorm was on its way.
