Chapter 69: The Doctor's Dead Zone Experiment - Cleaning Up the Fools' Camp.
High in the rainforest, Chen Bo and Farusan flew at a very slow speed, silently following behind the group of "merchants".
Soon, the two realized something was wrong.
The group did not return directly to a fixed camp, but instead traversed the forest, gradually joining up with several other teams.
Each team was strikingly similar in composition—a few people leading a group of hostages.
According to Nasita's surveillance footage, among these hostages were children lured in with candy, young people lured in with high-paying jobs, and even elderly people.
After several groups of people came together, they formed a strange team consisting of a dozen "guards" and nearly twenty "prisoners".
The prisoners ranged in age from the elderly to children, indicating this was no ordinary caravan operation; it was more likely a premeditated attack.
Massive arrests.
Farusan's heart sank. As a scholar, she knew all too well the dangers of the rainforest. Bringing such a large number of people, incapable of protecting themselves, into the depths of the rainforest could not possibly be for benevolent purposes.
"Something's not right, Anil," Farusan's voice came through the communication channel, tinged with seriousness. "They've arrested people of all ages; this doesn't seem like typical human trafficking."
Chen Bo's heart sank. His gaze passed over the layers of tree canopy and looked toward their destination.
It was an area shrouded in an eerie red and black mist. The trees were withered and twisted, the earth had an ominous grayness, and the air seemed to be filled with the aura of decay and death.
Dead Zone.
Near the Dead Zone, there was a camp, and the camp was patrolled by soldiers of the Fools.
"I have a feeling they're going to lead these people into the dead zone!" Chen Bo offered his analysis: "We need to head to the area above the camp immediately."
Chen Bo's inner alarm bells were ringing; he had encountered a PhD student, which was a good thing.
"We must notify Tinari immediately!" Farusan made a snap decision and immediately switched channels to contact Cole.
"Colette! Listen to me! The situation has changed!" Farusan said urgently, "We've caught up with more than one group. They've captured many people, young and old, and are heading towards a dead zone! Tell Tinari immediately to prepare for the worst!"
A moment later, Cole replied, "Senior Falushan, Anil! Master said that no matter what they are doing, we must immediately warn them to leave! The danger of the Dead Zone is far beyond imagination; even brief contact with ordinary people can have serious consequences!"
After a pause, Cole added, "Master also said that you must not enter the Dead Zone without permission, and that everything should be dealt with after he arrives!"
Chen Bo and Farusan exchanged a glance, already seeing each other's thoughts in each other's eyes.
The two of them spoke at the same time.
"Senior, let's take control of the situation first."
"Anil, let's get the situation under control first."
On the ground, two researchers were chatting about what interesting things would happen next.
The next second, two metal objects, like divine soldiers descending from the sky, swept past everyone with a whistling sound.
The attack began immediately.
Chen Bo did not want to kill anyone, so most of his attacks were aimed at destroying the elemental weapons in the hands of the Fools.
"We are the forest rangers of Mount Sumeru."
As Chen Bo attacked, he shouted through the mecha's loudspeaker, "Drop your weapons and release the hostages!"
A leader of the Fools' advance team, who appeared to be their leader, scoffed: "Foresters? Just the two of you?"
"That's quite a temper."
Chen Bo, too lazy to waste any more words, directly gave the order to Farusan: "Senior, let's go all out and subdue them. Don't let a single one escape!"
"Hmph, it's easy for you to order around your senior."
Farusan muttered a complaint, then deftly disarmed herself and leaped out of the cockpit.
For her, this armor is currently more of a tool for high-speed movement and defense; she is not good at using the palm cannon for attacks.
With a flick of her wrist, she launched an ingenious multifaceted mechanism that instantly unfolded in mid-air, drawing in the surrounding air.
"Anil, witness the wisdom of your senior!"
A sudden gust of wind arose, and a powerful vortex instantly formed, engulfing three or four unsuspecting Fool soldiers, making them dizzy and instantly incapacitated.
At the same time, Chen Bo's palm cannon and floating cannons fired at an extremely fast speed.
He had no non-lethal weapons, and these floating cannons were extremely deadly to personnel.
Chen Bo tried his best to destroy weapons and non-lethal parts.
Clusters of fire exploded continuously, and Chen Bo's firepower alone almost suppressed more than a dozen soldiers of the Fools.
The sizzling sound of melting metal, the clanging of weapons falling, and the cries of soldiers in pain mingled together.
The battle was quite intense.
These Fools' soldiers were not to be trifled with; two of Chen Bo's floating cannons were shot down.
In the chaos, two men who looked like researchers were about to activate some device when Chen Bo casually fired a shot at them.
Unexpectedly, these two researchers were not very physically fit and were easily shot through by Chen Bo, leaving a huge hole in their chests.
Chen Bo commented that the researchers' physical condition was really poor. The soldiers of the Fools could withstand a regular cannon shot and only suffer minor cuts and bruises, without any life-threatening danger.
I didn't want to kill anyone, but if someone dies, they die.
Researchers are the ones who deserve to die the most.
He felt no pity whatsoever; to work for someone like the PhD, one had to be prepared to lose one's life.
Soon, all the resisting Fools soldiers were knocked to the ground, their cries of agony filling the air.
Chen Bo gathered all the prisoners and rescued civilians together, awaiting the arrival of Tinari.
The battle had just ended, and only a dozen seconds had passed when Tinari arrived.
However, the scene this time was somewhat comical.
Koly's green "Peregrine" mech was flying in a somewhat clumsy manner, with someone in her arms.
The man was none other than Tinari, whose face was etched with utter despair. His long ears were blown back by the strong wind, sticking tightly to his head, his hair was disheveled, and his attempt to control his expression had completely failed.
"Pfft—" Chen Bo couldn't help but burst out laughing when he saw this.
Cole landed unsteadily and staggered.
Tina immediately broke free from her embrace. Instead of checking the scene, she frantically tidied her hair and ears, trying to salvage some dignity as a teacher.
"Teacher Tinari, your entrance is quite unique." Chen Bo suppressed a laugh and teased, "If you didn't know better, you'd think some young lady had been kidnapped."
Tinari's ears twitched unhappily. "Anil, this isn't the time for jokes! Let's get down to business! How's the situation?"
"As you can see, it's all resolved." Chen Bo shrugged, then took out the documents he had just found in the camp: "This is their experimental plan."
