Torture the hero, why has the Demon King's castle collapsed again?

“I know.” He straightened his back resolutely, as if with pride: “No setback or danger can bring down Chief Lark.”

"Even if the sky falls, Chief Lark will hold it up!"

As Fim watched Mino's retreating figure, a glimmer of light welled up in his usually dull pupils.

"Okay, handsome."

A large bow swayed gently behind the hem of the skirt.

……

late at night.

On the bed, Mino, who had kept her eyes closed, opened them, showing no signs of sleepiness.

"Now, it's stealth time—"

Mino picked up the holy sword from the corner, hung it at his waist, and feeling the strength in Mino's grip, Altottai inexplicably tensed up:

"My lord, are we really going to escape... This is the Demon King's castle, the residence of the nine great demons and the Demon King. I think it would be safer inside the prison than outside."

"Idiot!" Mino scolded, "Have you forgotten that it was the two of us who severely injured those eight demons? Now is the best opportunity; while they haven't recovered, our chances of escaping are the greatest!"

“There are more than just demons in the Demon King’s castle…” Altottai jumped up: “There’s also the most terrifying Demon King!”

"It is said that no one has ever been able to escape from it, and all those who have seen its face are dead!!!" Altote shuddered. "For a thousand years, not a single one has been able to fight it... No one knows what the Demon King of the Demon King's Castle looks like."

"Besides, my lord, how are you going to escape from the prison?"

"Hmph." Mino snorted and showed off the iron object in his hand.

"The path to salvation lies within it—"

Chapter 14 Saying Goodnight in the Demon King's Castle

There was a click.

As the key was inserted into the lock, the cell door creaked open effortlessly.

Mino tiptoed out the door and took a deep, excited breath.

He opened his arms, as if embracing the blue sky—

"Stop pretending, you only stepped through a door, hurry up and go!" Altottai immediately bristled.

Mino quickly shushed him softly and looked at the deep corridors on both sides, which were lined with neat cells. Except for his cell, they were all empty, with only the occasional skeleton lying inside.

I walked briskly through the corridor, where a spiral bluestone staircase led down to an unknown number of floors.

Up or down?

Mino knew it was time to make a serious decision. According to the storybook, the Demon King and the higher-ups usually lived at the very top of the Demon King's Castle, so... if you're a hero, go down one hundred floors!

The Demon King's Castle was not a hundred stories high. Mino continued down the spiral staircase, passing about sixteen or seventeen stories, and reached the bottom floor.

I don't know if it's just my imagination, but even though it's late at night, the light seems to have dimmed considerably.

Mino could only see a few wall lamps hanging on the walls around the ground floor, which illuminated a very small area.

The nearest wall lamp was just a few meters away. Mino crept over quietly, her hand groping between the stone walls, and suddenly she touched a wooden door with a handle.

Mino's heart started pounding... Could it be that he'd won in one life?

He took a deep breath, slowly pulled the handle, and pushed open the wooden door.

Disappointingly, it seemed to be a closed room. By the dim light of a lantern, Mino could see the room's layout and was immediately taken aback—

The room was simple, without any unnecessary decorations. There was only a desk and a wardrobe in the corner. On the desk was a row of extremely delicate silver needles and silk threads, but there were no handkerchiefs, scarves or other knitted items.

In the center of the room, there was a rectangular wooden box shaped like a coffin.

"This...could this be...Egypt?!" Mino had a sudden flash of inspiration and couldn't help but think of a centenarian.

He tiptoed to the wooden box and confirmed that it was indeed a coffin, the classic sliding lid type... After thinking for a moment, Mino placed his hand on the coffin lid and slowly pushed it open, then looked inside the coffin.

The expected emptiness inside did not materialize; the monster inside the coffin woke up when Mino pushed the coffin lid open.

The demon maid, dressed in simple and cute pajamas, lay in the coffin, her innocent eyes meeting Mino's for a moment before she blinked.

“Fi...Fim.” Mino opened her mouth slightly.

"Mino, what's this? Here." Fim lay in the coffin like a well-behaved rag doll, only his eyes blinked a little faster.

"Uh, how did you get into the coffin?" Mino coughed a few times.

"My strategist said that zombies should stay in coffins."

"Nonsense! That's clearly how vampires make their entrance!!"

Fim tilted his head, somewhat puzzled, and then saw Mino slowly closing the coffin lid, bit by bit.

"Well, you can continue resting... just pretend I was never here, goodnight." Mino chuckled awkwardly.

The coffin was plunged into darkness once again.

Fim blinked, looking dazed.

After a long while, a soft sound finally rang out, echoing quietly inside the coffin:

"Good night."

Outside the coffin, Mino wiped away a cold sweat and finally realized the situation: this was not the exit, but Fim's bedroom.

So, the lowest level of the Demon King's castle isn't the exit, but rather home to demon officers of the Demon King's army?!

Are you kidding me?! Are you using this giant tree as a guard post?!

Mino suddenly turned her head to look at the other side, at the room with the wall lamp hanging. Whether it was really like that, she would know if she just pushed open the door of that room again... However, the hero's intuition inexplicably pounded at this moment.

Mino had a premonition that if he pushed open that door, he would die a horrible death.

"Anyway... let's go back to the cell and take a look at the top floor."

He thought about it and realized he couldn't rely on escaping successfully in one go, so... he decided to follow his heart.

Mino looked up at the spiral staircase, her eyes filled with determination.

If you're brave enough, go for the hundredth floor!

He took down the holy sword Altotate, stuck it into the steps, and, leaning on a hiking stick, began to climb back up, accompanied by a string of curses in his mind.

The Demon King's castle is just too high—

The wall lamp in the room directly opposite Fim's dormitory flickered with light...

inside the room.

Klettina gently pushed open the wooden bathroom door, and steam seeped out from the crack. Klettina dried her wet hair.

Her skin, still flushed from the hot water, resembled a rose covered in dew, with a few drops of water sliding off her ankles onto the ground.

"I had a feeling... I think I just sensed the aura of a hero..."

Kleidina tilted her head, somewhat puzzled.

"Never mind, it's time to go see the Demon King." Kleinna swayed gently, a light yellow rose dress wrapped around her delicate body, exuding a slightly moist and sweet aura.

Kleidina let her long hair fall over her shoulders, her expression light and gentle, and walked out the door to a room.

"My Lord Demon..."

……

The moonlight shone down gently.

Mino stopped at the top of the stairs in the cell corridor.

He was about to change direction and explore the upper floors when he stopped.

Under the moonlight through the stone window, a small shadow appeared.

The child's face was that of a five or six-year-old, with long, smooth white hair. Golden eyes beneath the childlike face revealed a faint innocence. Under the moonlight, the skin was as smooth and supple as milk, almost transparent, and was carefully wrapped in a cute, pure white dress.

Upon seeing Mino, the little girl pressed her fingers against her cheek and uttered a soft, sweet voice: "...Ugh?"

"A white-haired loli!" Mino exclaimed.

"Wow! You've summed up such an adorable creature in just four words!" Altottai exclaimed in surprise.

Mino trotted up to her and curiously tugged at the little girl's soft, long hair. The girl shook her head, a look of pleasure on her face.

"Little friend... why are you here all alone? Where did your mother go?"

The white-haired loli stared at Mino, seemingly understanding what Mino said, but also somewhat confused.

"...?"

Mino felt a sudden pang of pain in her heart. She realized that there were probably only a few possibilities for such a small girl to appear alone in the Demon King's castle.

After thinking for a moment, he asked cautiously.

"And what about your father?"

"Bang... bang...?" The little girl's voice was still blank.

Mino couldn't help but slap herself, looking heartbroken.

He deserves to die!

So, this little girl is all alone now...?

"What about your name?"

This time, the little girl seemed to understand, revealing a warm smile like a little sun, and uttering simple syllables.

"Mimi...Mia!"

Chapter 15 We Have a Traitor Among Us

"Mia, why are they locking you up in the Demon King's Castle? Do you know how to get out?"

Mino picked up Mia. Whether Mia understood Mino's question or not, she put her finger to her lips and quietly looked at Mino.

As her hair slid, two tiny demonic horns peeked out from Mia's head.
