Yuto Itsuki calmly looked around, taking in the entire scene in the classroom.
Shoko still clung tightly to his clothes, half of her body hiding behind him, only half her face showing, curiously and timidly looking around at this unfamiliar environment.
The homeroom teacher was a male teacher who looked to be in his thirties, and his surname was Takeuchi.
He gave the two of them a gentle smile. "This must be Nishimiya Shoko, right? Welcome to our class."
Teacher Takeuchi gestured for the two to come to the front of the classroom.
"Classmates, these two are our new students who transferred to our class today. Let's welcome them."
Scattered applause broke out, mixed with the curious whispers of the children.
"Please introduce yourselves first."
Yuto Itsuka bowed generously and said, "Hello everyone, my name is Yuto Itsuka. Please take care of me in the future."
A few girls below started chattering: "Wow, he's so handsome!", "He's so dashing!", "I want to be friends with him!"...
Next up is glass.
She took a small step forward nervously, her face flushed red.
She knew her speech was unclear, and speaking in front of so many people was a huge challenge for her.
Yuto Itsuka noticed her embarrassment and, without making a sound, gently touched her hand and gave her an encouraging look.
Shoko took a deep breath, then said in a somewhat muffled but forcefully amplified voice, "Fight, fight, good, I call you Nishimiya... Shoko! Kei... please... give me your guidance!"
After saying that, she quickly bowed, her cheeks as red as ripe apples.
A burst of laughter erupted in the classroom, starting with a short-haired boy in the back row, followed by other children joining in the commotion.
Yuto Itsuka glanced over coldly and silently memorized those faces.
Ms. Takeuchi added with a smile, "As for Nishimiya, she has hearing difficulties and can't hear everyone very well, so communication might be a little difficult for her. She communicates with everyone using a notebook, and we hope that everyone can be understanding and help her."
As soon as the teacher finished speaking, the classroom fell silent for a moment, followed by a burst of suppressed chatter.
"Hard of hearing? Yue—Yiyi San is Ling Qi Er Si Ba Shi"
"No wonder she was wearing that thing..."
"What about her classes?"
The children's eyes all turned to the small hearing aid on Shoko's ear, their eyes filled with undisguised curiosity, some kind of good-natured curiosity, and some with ill intent.
Shoko sensed these gazes and instinctively shrank back, her small hands gripping Yuto Itsuka's clothes even tighter.
Yuto Itsuki glanced at Takeuchi-sensei out of the corner of his eye and frowned slightly.
This introduction, which carries the "special meaning" of Erling Er 2 (I) III Ling 82 Yue-Yi, although well-intentioned, is tantamount to labeling Shoko invisibly, separating her from other children.
However, there was nothing that could be done about leaving the shrimp behind (the teacher died at the dam).
Shoko's hearing impairment is an objective fact.
"Alright, students, quiet down." Takeuchi-sensei clapped his hands. "Itsuka-kun and Nishimiya-kun, please take the empty seats over there."
The teacher refers to the two empty seats at the back of the classroom, near the window.
Yuto Itsuka pulled Shoko along.
Along the way, he could feel the gazes that were fixed on them, or rather, on Shoko.
As soon as the two sat down, a lively-looking girl with pigtails at the table in front of them turned around and looked at Shoko curiously: "Can't you really hear us?"
Shoko was somewhat at a loss and subconsciously looked at Itsuka Yuto.
Yuto Itsuka answered for her: "It's not that she can't hear you at all, it's just that she's very quiet, so if you speak louder or closer, she can hear you a little better."
He paused, then added, "However, it would be clearer to write it down."
"Oh..." The girl nodded as if she understood, then looked at the hearing aid on Shoko's ear, "What is that thing? Is it uncomfortable to wear?"
Shoko saw the girl pointing at her hearing aid, pursed her lips, took out a notebook and pen from her bag, and wrote carefully:
This is a hearing aid; it helps me hear some sounds without causing discomfort.
She handed the notebook to the girl.
The girl leaned closer to look and read it aloud.
Several classmates gathered around curiously.
"Wow, they can even communicate by writing!"
"so amazing."
The children chattered amongst themselves, mostly out of pure curiosity.
Although Shoko was a little nervous, she tried her best to communicate with them simply using her notebook, with Yuto Itsuka by her side.
While keeping an eye on Shoko's situation, Itsuka Yuto also discreetly observed the other students in the class.
His gaze swept across the classroom and quickly locked onto a target.
On the other side of the classroom, a boy with short black hair and a somewhat arrogant look in his eyes was resting his chin on his hand, looking idly out the window at the aisle.
This is the boy who started jeering and mocking Shoko during her self-introduction.
And the boy's deskmate, a girl with shoulder-length short hair who looked somewhat arrogant.
She looked at Shoko with utter disdain.
Yuto Itsuka narrowed his eyes; these two were the people he was paying close attention to.
Who knows, he might have to transfer schools again in a few days.
……
The morning classes passed uneventfully.
Shoko listened very hard, even though she was sitting in the back row and couldn't hear very clearly. But Yuto Itsuka would take notes for her so that she wouldn't fall behind in the class.
Lunch break.
The children gathered in twos and threes to eat and chat.
Yuto Itsuka and Shoko were eating their bento boxes together at their seats.
Yuto Itsuka's bento box is a nutritious meal carefully prepared by his "mother," while Shoko's bento box was made by her mother, Yaeko Nishimiya, and it also looks very plentiful.
In her memory, Shoko's mother was originally very domineering. She did not want Shoko to be spoiled because of her hearing impairment, so she always treated her strictly.
For a period of time, Shoko kept a boy's haircut, which was forced upon her by Yaeko Nishimiya in order to protect her daughter from being bullied.
It could be said that Yaeko Nishimiya only cares about how her child grows up, but doesn't pay attention to Shoko's emotions and thoughts.
When Yuto found out about this, he immediately told his mother. His real intention was to treat Nishimiya Yaeko as a class enemy and not want Shoko to be bullied by her mother.
The two families were originally neighbors and had a very close relationship. After Shoko's father abandoned his wife and daughter, the two children's mothers even became best friends and talked about everything.
After hearing her son complain to her, Kotori Itsuka also felt that her friend Yaeko's discipline of her daughter was somewhat inappropriate, but because she was an outsider, she could not speak directly, and only hinted at it from the side.
However, this also led Yaeko Nishimiya to make some changes, becoming less harsh on her daughter.
Volume 1: Chapter 6: Awakening, the Hunting Moment!
"Shoko, this fried chicken is delicious, you should try it." Yuto Itsuka picked up a piece of golden fried chicken and put it into Shoko's bento box.
Shoko looked up at him with a sweet smile, then picked up a piece of tamagoyaki from her own bento box, intending to put it into Itsuka Yuto's box as well.
Just then, a figure suddenly appeared beside their table.
Yuto Itsuka recognized the other person.
Ishida Shoya, he had heard other children call this name during recess.
This person was also the first to mock glass.
He was holding a soccer ball in his hand, with a childish, defiant smile on his face, typical of a primary school student.
"Hey, newbie." He gestured with his chin at Itsuka Yuto, "Want to come play soccer in PE class this afternoon?"
Before Yuto Itsuka could speak, a chubby boy sitting near Shoya shouted, "Shoya, don't look for him! He looks so weak, he definitely can't play soccer!"
Another boy, who looked like a follower, chimed in, "That's right, don't hold us back."
Ishida Shoya's gaze swept over Itsuka Yuto's slender body, his eyes showing a hint of disdain.
Then he turned his gaze to Shoko, who was eating quietly next to him.
He stared at the hearing aid on Shoko's ear, then suddenly pointed at it and shouted, "Hey, what's that? A toy? Hahahaha!"
His voice was loud, and Shoko was startled. Her body trembled violently, and she instinctively covered her ears. Her face drained of color, revealing a frightened expression.
Yuto Itsuka placed his chopsticks on the bento box, wiped his mouth, and then stood up with a "whoosh." Before anyone could react, he kicked Shoya Ishida in the stomach, sending him sprawling to the ground!
Then, he stood in front of Shoko, looking down at Ishida Shouya on the ground, and said, "You damn dog, bullying Shoko in front of your father?"
After saying that, he kicked Ishida Shoya hard in the side, knocking the child's lunch out.
Although he was physically a primary school student, the chill emanating from his eyes at that moment caused the small group to instinctively take a small step back, protecting Ishida Shoya, who was still curled up on the ground like a shrimp, in front of them.
The previously noisy atmosphere in the classroom instantly quieted down due to this sudden confrontation.
Everyone looked this way.
Despite the pain, Ishida Shouya stood on the ground, his neck stiff, and shouted, somewhat blustering but actually cowardly, "I... I was just asking!"
Yuto Itsuka sneered, took a step forward, and leaned down to look directly into Shoya Ishida's eyes: "Do you even have the right to ask?"
He spoke each word with perfect clarity.
That sense of pressure beyond his years made Ishida Shoya somewhat intimidated.
He just thought the new girl was wearing something strange and wanted to tease her, but he didn't expect this girl named Itsuka Yuto to react so strongly.
Naoka Ueno, who was standing nearby, stood up, frowned, and said, "Hey! Aren't you making a mountain out of a molehill? Shoya was just curious, how could you hit him?!"
Yuto Itsuka turned to Naoka Ueno and said, "I'm also very curious about your mother. Please have her come to my room tonight."
"you!"
Such a fierce verbal attack was completely overwhelming for Naoka Ueno, who was still in elementary school at the time. She had no choice but to unleash her ultimate weapon from her school days:
"I need to report this to the teacher!"
Yuto Itsuka scoffed dismissively, then turned to Shoya Ishida and said, "You don't want the teacher to know that you bullied a transfer student on the first day of school, do you?"
Ishida Shoya had already been helped up by his followers and was leaning on the desk next to him with one hand.
He met Itsuka Yuto's dark eyes, opened his mouth as if to say something, but in the end he didn't dare to utter another word. He just called out "Naoka" and left dejectedly with his little followers.
Naoka Ueno sat back down with a cold expression and stopped talking.
Yuto Itsuka then turned around.
Shoko remained seated, head bowed, shoulders trembling slightly.
Yuto Itsuka's heart tightened, and he quickly crouched down, asking softly, "Shoko, are you alright?"
Shoko slowly raised her head, her eyes red-rimmed, but she shook her head forcefully.
She looked at Yuto Itsuka and quickly wrote in her notebook: "[Itsuka-kun, thank you. But...did I cause you any trouble?]"
She was worried that because of her, Yuto Itsuka would have a falling out with his classmates.
Yuto Itsuka felt a pang of tenderness in his heart as he looked at her cautious manner.
He reached out and gently wiped away the tears that were about to fall from the corners of her eyes, then took her notebook and wrote: [Yuto Itsuka was born to protect Shoko Nishimiya]
Shoko looked at the contents of the notebook, at the warm smile on Yuto's face, and lowered her head. Tears finally streamed down her face, but she tried her best to smile.
……
Yuto Itsuka's "declaration" during lunch break did indeed cause quite a stir in Class 6-3.
The atmosphere in the class became somewhat delicate over the next few days.
Some of the students, especially those with milder personalities or those who had been marginalized in the past, looked at Yuto Itsuka with admiration and became much friendlier to Shoko.
