Chapter 17 Let's do even more "outrageous" things
"You've already left our camp, so you're a traitor. You're not welcome at tonight's party," Gloria said, raising an eyebrow, clearly still resentful about Isidora's departure.
"Wait a moment."
Lin Simon's gaze fell on the bag in Isidora's hand.
It was a transparent bag printed with "Gym Closed-End Sale," containing several small bottles of protein powder and a crumpled packet of ibuprofen. "You brought these things here not for yourself, but for Chris, right? I think you're giving them to him."
The transparent bag contained two items: protein powder, a staple for fit men, and ibuprofen to relieve fever and cold symptoms.
These are all the things Chris needs most right now.
Although Isidora was a nurse before, as a homeless person now, it must have taken a lot of effort for her to get a packet of ibuprofen instead of painkillers.
Chris, who had been looking utterly lifeless and almost completely dried out, suddenly brightened up upon hearing Lin Simon's words, even straightening his back slightly: "You...you brought this especially for me?"
Isidora opened her mouth, but no sound came out.
Seeing that the other party seemed reluctant to answer, Lin Ximeng immediately said, "There's an old saying in my hometown: to judge a person, you should not only listen to what they say, but also observe what they do."
Simon Lin raised his hand. "I agree to let her stay at the party."
Riley, after a moment's thought, also raised his hand, beer foam still on his lips: "I may not be very well-educated, but what Simon said seems to make a lot of sense, and I agree."
Gloria pursed her lips and slowly raised her hand: "Fine, for the sake of the protein powder. I mainly want to see what Isidora is up to; watching the drama is more interesting than getting angry."
Jeff also raised his hand and nodded: "Count me in, there's still plenty of pizza left anyway."
Seeing that everyone agreed, Chris was so happy he almost jumped for joy. He quickly moved to the seat next to him, trying to pull Isidora down to sit: "Sit down, the pizza is especially delicious with honey sauce on it, you should try it."
Isidora stepped away from Chris, her face expressionless, and shoved the bag in her hand into Simon Lin's arms: "I don't have room for these things, they're taking up space. You can have them. Whoever wants to eat or use them is none of my business."
After saying that, he turned and walked outside.
Chris was at a loss for a moment and asked Simon Lin, "She said she can't fit any more. Is it because her place is too cramped? Do you think I should find a storage rack and send it to her? Or one of those shopping carts from the supermarket, they're also good for storing things."
Lin Ximeng sighed: "All the nutrients I took during the workout went to my muscles, not a single bit of benefit went to my brain."
This fitness fanatic is usually quite clever, but the moment he encounters Isidora, his brain seems to shut down completely.
"Hurry up and chase after her, she's really leaving!" Lin Simon immediately reminded her as he watched Isidora walk further and further away.
He was also hoping to get news from Isidora about other neighborhoods; he couldn't let the couple fall through.
"You're right, I need to go ask her if she's doing well now," Chris said, and then chased after her.
Gloria was clearly disappointed to see the two leave.
She was hoping to hear some juicy gossip, but there was nothing at all.
It's pure love that lured the minotaur in to kill him!
As the party continued, Gloria, who wasn't a big drinker, soon became quite drunk.
"When Max and I first met, it was in Ah Han's little restaurant," Gloria said, slurring her words as she hooked her arm around Riley's shoulder and began to recount her past.
She continued, her voice a little lower than usual, "You know what? Back then, Max had just opened her restaurant. She wiped tables like she was applying lipstick, and what should have taken three minutes would drag on for half an hour. So why was I the one who ended up getting fired?"
Riley looked up: "Isn't it because you don't have legal American citizenship?"
"Yes, legal status," Gloria said through gritted teeth.
Who says only Americans have the American dream?
She, Gloria, a Mexican who secretly came to America, also had one.
"My American dream has been destroyed just like that," Gloria said with a look of regret.
Lin Ximeng asked with some curiosity, "Your dream is to find a job at a restaurant here?"
"Of course not," Gloria said with a silly grin.
"I want to own my own restaurant, not a big one, just big enough to fit two tables, selling tortillas that my mom taught me to make, and also cooking some bean soup."
As if remembering something, Gloria added, "Of course, if Ah Han runs the restaurant, it wouldn't be bad for me to be the boss."
"Simon, you're new here, so you don't know, but most Americans have a 'lazy and slacking' attitude when they work."
"Unlike me, I can wipe a plate ten times over."
"I can even clean the toilet so thoroughly that the water inside is drinkable."
Lin Ximeng felt increasingly uneasy as he listened. Where had he ended up? Was this still the West Coast?
Is this a bit like something out of Yilin magazine?
So, when these magazines talked about investing in overseas distribution, were they actually distributing all their products to Mexico?
After listening for a while, Lin Ximeng asked, "So, Ah Han is your ideal type?"
Gloria paused, seemingly thinking about this for the first time, then nodded after a moment:
"If you put it that way, it does seem to be true."
"His plates weren't as neat as mine, but they were much better than Max's."
"As a marriage partner, he's more reliable than an American."
......
Another hour later, Chris, who had left with Isidora, finally returned to the camp.
"Here, take this bag of protein powder and ibuprofen. Isidora originally came to give it to you," Simon Lin said, handing the bag to Chris and also handing him the few slices of pizza he had left behind.
Chris returned with a smile on his face, and now, after receiving the bag, his face is even more radiant:
"Guys, I feel like I'm bursting with power right now. I even think I could go and beat up all those guys on 7th Street right now."
"Yes, do it all," Gloria chimed in, clearly completely drunk.
"Hey buddy, what do you think?" Jeff, who was considered to have a good alcohol tolerance in the camp, was still able to ask Simon Lin clearly.
Although tonight was his first time meeting Lin Ximeng, after hearing about Lin Ximeng's experiences over the past two days from Riley and the others...
He made his own judgment: whether the camp could handle the conflict with the group in 7th Street was key to Lin Ximeng, the new Asian guy.
"No rush, let's play around with them a bit more," Lin Ximeng actually didn't take the so-called 7th Street too seriously.
Previously, there was only a sickly Chris in the camp, so the other side didn't dare to do anything too extreme.
Now that I've joined them and Chris is starting to recover, the other party will definitely be more cautious lately.
So for him, the most important thing right now is to make money.
Lin Simon shared his thoughts, and everyone except Gloria, who was already drunk, agreed with him.
"Good night."
After a while, everyone had eaten and drunk their fill, the party ended, and everyone went to rest.
Simon and Riley carried Gloria back to her own tent.
After greeting the others, Lin Ximeng returned to his tent to rest.
Lying down in his sleeping bag, Lin Simon fell asleep immediately.
......
The next day, it was dawn.
When Lin Ximeng woke up, the intelligence system had been updated again.
[Daily Update: Emily, the female doctor at the shelter, is deeply impressed by the incident of "stealing" medicine from the shelter with you; she felt a mischievous thrill. For her, after twenty years of being controlled like a puppet by her conservative parents, the first time she "sneaked" medicine to give to a homeless person was more exhilarating than a dissection experiment. Now, she secretly hopes to do something even more "outrageous" with you next time.]
