Chapter 82 Preparing to Collect Interest
Chapter 82 Preparing to Collect Interest
Xu Chunsheng's good mood was not affected by the scorching summer heat at all.
Qian Junwei has always been a thorn in my side. I've been so busy improving my family's life that I've never had the chance to get back at him.
Since he came to me of his own accord this time, I must ask him for some interest first!
You San'er was nothing more than a stepping stone, insignificant and harmless.
He found You San'er today only to pry him open and obtain evidence that Qian Junwei had paid him to throw dead rats and chickens into the pig farm.
Once You San'er confesses in person, with the village chief as a witness, he will no longer be able to deny it or refuse to identify Qian Junwei.
Xu Chunsheng saw that it was almost time before he went to You San'er's house.
You San'er was leaning back in a bamboo chair, eyes closed, humming an unknown tune. Beside him on a stool were a small handful of dried peanuts and a half-empty bottle of "liquor."
Xu Chunsheng stood in front of him:
"You San'er, you're living a comfortable life."
Hearing someone speaking to him, You San'er opened his eyes and saw that it was Xu Chunsheng. He almost fell off his chair.
You San'er composed himself, his eyes darting around, and picked up a peanut from the side to peel it.
"Life's just so-so, Xu Erwa, what are you going to do about it?"
Xu Chunsheng glanced at him indifferently, and without uttering a single word, asked directly:
"You San'er, I'm here today to ask you only one thing: someone threw dead rats at my pig farm before, was that you?"
As soon as he finished speaking, the peanuts that You San'er had just peeled fell from his palm and rolled to Xu Chunsheng's feet.
You San'er's gaze followed the peanut and settled on Xu Chunsheng's rubber shoes. He looked up:
"Xu Erwa, you can't just say things like that. I've been staying home lately and haven't gone anywhere. How would I know who did that to you?"
"You didn't go anywhere? Before the accident, you came to my pig farm every day to watch the commotion, and you ate plenty of sunflower seeds and peanuts, didn't you? Why haven't you come since the accident?"
You San'er stammered as he spoke:
"If something happens, I definitely won't go. Who knows if those dead things have any diseases? What if I catch one?"
Xu Chunsheng snorted coldly:
"After the incident, you didn't dare to leave the house and hid for three or four days, but in the last few days you've started buying meat and refined grains again."
After speaking, Xu Chunsheng gestured for him to look at the wine beside him:
"They're really living a lavish life now; they can even afford to drink alcohol."
Fine beads of sweat began to appear on You San'er's forehead, and he said somewhat flusteredly:
"It's my money, how I spend it is none of your business!"
Xu Chunsheng continued to press:
"You stored them yourself? You usually have to pick even cucumbers from other people's fields, what are you going to use to store them?"
Xu Chunsheng stared at You San and said calmly:
"I won't beat around the bush with you, and I don't want to cause you any trouble. You're just being bossed around, so there's no point in bothering you."
A glimmer of hope flashed in You San'er's eyes, and he was about to speak when Xu Chunsheng interrupted him:
"But if you cover for someone else and take the blame for them, then the nature of the crime changes."
"What you did was disrupt production, maliciously damage other people's property, and spread rumors about disease to cause panic. All of this is enough to get you locked up for a few days. When you come out, you'll have to pay a fine and compensate my pig farm for its losses."
Seeing the panic on You San's face, Xu Chunsheng calmly offered the "solution":
"If you confess who instigated you, I can put in a good word for you and not make you compensate me for the losses of my pig farm. At most, the village will just give you a beating."
"If you're stubborn and take all the blame, then you'll be the only one responsible. You'll have to pay compensation, and if you can't pay, you'll go to jail! You won't escape any of it!"
Startled by Xu Chunsheng's emphasized tone, You San'er trembled, her face turning pale.
"It's...it's Qian Junwei."
After Qian Junwei's name was mentioned, You San'er slumped into his chair and blurted out everything:
"He poisoned the chickens and ducks for me, and he made me catch the dead rats. Qian Junwei promised me that he would give me twenty yuan if I dumped these in your pig farm."
At this point, You San'er seemed to remember something and hurriedly said:
"He originally wanted me to throw him into the pigsty, preferably so the pigs could eat him."
He glanced at Xu Chunsheng's expression and smiled ingratiatingly:
"I know this is immoral, so I just left it outside. Qian Junwei even kicked me twice because of it!"
After saying that, You San pointed to his calf and showed it to Xu Chunsheng. There was indeed a blue mark on it.
He pointed to the mark and continued:
"Chunsheng, I've told you everything. You promised you wouldn't make me lose money."
Xu Chunsheng spoke, but instead of agreeing not to pursue You San'er's responsibility, he said:
"Village chief, did you hear that clearly? It was Qian Junwei who instructed You San'er to throw away dead chickens and mice."
Upon hearing Xu Chunsheng's words, You San'er looked at Xu Chunsheng in confusion, then looked outside.
Then the village chief led several of the village's "elders" in.
The sun was blazing outside, and the group's cheeks were flushed and they were sweating profusely. Because the village chief had told them not to make any noise, they didn't even dare to fan themselves.
You San'er's legs went weak, and he stood up shakily from the chair, saying with a hint of regret:
"Village chief, I didn't do it, it was Qian Junwei who did it. That 'immortal' can't stand to see the pig farm doing well. I was wrong, I won't do it again next time."
The village chief and a few others who were outside had overheard everything.
He spoke seriously:
"You San'er, we heard every word you just said clearly. The brigade will hold a meeting later to deal with this matter, and you must tell the truth without any regrets or concealment."
"If you dare to back out, we'll call the police!"
Looking at the few people who had half-surrounded him, You San'er knew there was no room for argument. He nodded dejectedly.
"Okay, I'll definitely tell the truth!"
After saying that, he glanced furtively at the village chief and Xu Chunsheng:
"Then I'll tell you the truth. Xu Erwa promised not to hold me responsible, right?"
Xu Chunsheng nodded in agreement:
"I meant what I said, and besides, you were kind enough not to throw the dead rat into the pigsty, so you did me a favor."
After the village chief and several "old folks" gave You San'er a good talking-to, they originally planned to get a drink of water from You San'er's house, but the bowls and ladles were covered in oil stains, so they lost their appetite and left in a hurry.
After the village chief and the others left, You San'er unconsciously breathed a sigh of relief and sat back down in his chair.
Before leaving, Xu Chunsheng also reassured You San'er:
"As long as you tell the truth when the time comes, I promised in the village that I would give you a reward of one hundred if you find the real culprit."
You San'er's eyes lit up, but Xu Chunsheng directly shattered his illusions:
"You've done this, so you can forget about getting a hundred. But if you tell the truth later, Qian Junwei will give you twenty, and I'll give you fifty."
Xu Chunsheng did this to prevent You San from backing out later, by hanging up the carrot for him in advance.
