Chapter 10: The Newly Appointed Patrol Officer
Chapter 10: The Newly Appointed Patrol Officer
At the Seagull Gang's stronghold, Anthony Kelly, an American black man and the gang's leader, is furious.
(Black people in America are divided into African American Blacks and American Blacks. African Americans are very dark-skinned, while American Blacks are lighter-skinned due to multiple generations of mixed ancestry.)
"Damn it, who let that bastard Damian assassinate the police?"
The underling beside him answered.
"It was you, boss, who told him to go."
"asshole."
Anthony slapped his underling away.
"I sent him to teach that damn prison guard a lesson and tell him to mind his own business. This is my territory. Who knew Damian would bring a gun? Now the police are saying I'm connected to the prison riot, and if this isn't dealt with soon, the FBI might get involved."
"Boss, why don't we hand that old lady over?"
"Should we hand over the person?"
Anthony recalled that it was a woman named Mary who persuaded him to take action.
The other party had been buying drugs from their gang and said that the danger of Chinese people in America was not even as great as that of Koreans. There were no Chinese gangs nearby to back them up, so he took action. He also wanted to intimidate the prison guards and tell them not to meddle and bully "their own people" on their own turf.
But now the fire is burning right next to us, and there's nothing we can do.
"Hand it over."
.
The next morning, a black woman with a bruised and swollen face walked into the police station; it was Mary, the woman who had stolen from the supermarket.
"Officer, I'm here to turn myself in."
The police officers who were planning to call for medical help were dumbfounded. It's rare to see someone surrender like this. Even gangsters who use others as scapegoats don't suffer this much.
"What law did you break?"
"I was so angry that I ordered my friend to teach a police officer named Ethan Lee a lesson. I really didn't know Damian would use a gun."
"....."
The police officer on duty was instantly shocked; this woman was connected to a major case.
Soon Sophie Parker appeared with her partner, and their interrogation went smoothly. She recounted the cause and process in detail.
She instigated the vandalism of the supermarket, and the police who thwarted her plans were attacked on the day of the attack.
Sophie reminded her.
"This is enough to convict you of instigating murder, which carries a maximum sentence of 20 years. You'd better think it over."
Mary immediately looked miserable.
"I really didn't expect it to involve guns, really."
After the interrogation, the Shooting Incident Response Department reported the evidence obtained from Mary, finally classifying the shooting as a crime and releasing Ethan Lee without charge. In fact, even if no evidence had been found, Ethan Lee should have been released within 48 hours.
The glaring sunlight hit Li Yisen's eyes. Staying in the detention center for more than a day was really uncomfortable, especially since he hadn't been able to take a shower.
Just then, a car pulled up beside him, the window opened, and it was his good friend Jacob, a Black man.
"Ethan, get in the car."
Li Yisen didn't stand on ceremony and opened the door to go inside.
"Why are you here?"
"They're not in Los Angeles and can't pick you up, but I'm here, of course I'm coming. There's a party tonight, let's go together. I've heard there are quite a few women who come to Hollywood to pursue their dreams."
"What I want most right now is to take a shower; I'll think about women later."
Jacob suddenly handed him the phone.
"Watch the video; it's relevant to you."
Lee Ethan clicked on the video and was almost speechless. The video showed two black women crying and complaining.
"Damian was such a kind person, the neighbors all said he was good-hearted, he would always bring me Wendy's ice cream when he came home, and we would watch movies together at night... Now all of that has been taken away!"
"I lost my only child, and I can never hold my grandchild again. Holidays have become torture..."
Li Yisen put the phone back.
"Are you trying to make me feel guilty?"
"Can you?"
"I wouldn't, in fact, I feel like laughing."
.....
As time went by, even though it had been proven that Li Yisen acted in self-defense, his paid suspension was still delayed by two weeks before a transfer was finalized.
"Clermont, we've finally arrived."
As darkness fell, Li Yisen parked his car and looked at the small town in front of him—no, now it was a new city, a city that had merged with several neighboring towns a few years ago, a new urban area of 24 people.
(For the sake of the plot, Clermont, Montecristo, and Appleland were merged.)
He had already inquired and found out that his original destination was Glendale, with a population of 41. Although the population was only a little over 10 more, it was definitely a wealthy city with ample funding for urban security.
Unfortunately, that case did have an impact, leading to his transfer from a wealthy city to Clermont, a city with the highest police mortality rate.
Clermont has two county sheriff's offices (stations), with an average of over 400 people per station. The South Sheriff's Office is responsible for the city center, while the North Sheriff's Office is also responsible for the urban area, but also includes the San Antonio mountain area. If necessary, the county sheriff's office has to go into the mountains for hundreds of kilometers, which is definitely a thankless task.
"What bad luck!"
The car slowly drove through the city. Unlike downtown Los Angeles, there were very few buildings here that were more than 10 stories high. Most of the buildings were detached houses, or villas, with gardens.
Li Yisen went to his rented house to sleep for one night before reporting to the police station the next day.
.
Early in the morning, Li Yisen, dressed in civilian clothes, walked into the police station with his new police uniform.
(Among grassroots patrol officers, probationary officers must wear long-sleeved uniforms, regardless of whether it is hot summer or not, while officers of the first rank and above may wear short sleeves.)
After carefully examining the police station map, he was about to head to the patrol officers' assembly point when two female officers stopped him. Judging from their shoulder insignia, the 30-year-old woman was a second-level police officer, while the younger officer was a probationary officer.
The female police officers at the police station are of quite high quality. The 30-year-old female officer is very dashing, while the trainee officer is even more beautiful.
Her long, wavy golden hair was tied in a ponytail. Her features were delicate yet slightly chubby. Underneath her police uniform, her figure was the envy of most women. Her height was estimated to be around 1.67 meters.
"I can't help but ask," the trainee policewoman asked sweetly.
"Hey, newbie, where are you planning to go?"
Lee Ethan held up the brand-new clothes wrapped in a plastic bag.
"It's obviously to go to the storage room, and then to the meeting point."
The trainee policewoman changed her expression and pretended to be serious.
"No, you have to report to the police superintendent first and introduce yourself."
The policewoman next to her almost couldn't hold back, but considering that the rookie she was in charge of had also been teased like this when she first arrived, she kept quiet.
Lee Ethan roughly determined that the other party was trying to mess with him. He had never heard of a police commissioner having to listen to a new recruit's self-introduction. For a police station, the police commissioner was the top dog, so there was no time for him to do anything.
"I'm new here and don't know the way. Could you take me there, or wait until I put my things in the storage room?"
The policewoman was not about to give up. Who knew if the other person would hear the explanations from others? She didn't want to be the only one in the entire police station who had been tricked.
"Okay, come with me."
Before the two even reached the police superintendent's office, they encountered the nearly 60-year-old superintendent.
Before the policewoman could escape, Li Yisen had already spoken to the police superintendent.
"Sir, please let me introduce myself. I've heard this is a tradition at the police station."
"???"
Jason Garcia, it's obvious without even guessing.
"Evelyn, did you say that?"
The policewoman named Evelyn looked pitiful.
"Sir, I was just joking."
Jason Garcia didn't mind; in a high-risk profession, a little joke can put pressure on someone.
"Alright, go back now. And Officer Ethan, you'd better hurry up and change your clothes and get to the assembly point."
"Yes."
Jason Garcia watched the figure disappear, feeling a bit curious about the new police officer, since it was quite rare for a new officer to kill two people in just a few days.
.
Soon, Li Yisen changed into his short-sleeved police uniform and arrived at the assembly room of the Patrol Operations Department's Third Group. The Patrol Operations Department is responsible for daily patrols, emergency response, traffic management, and community policing, and has nearly 280 people.
The department was further divided into 6 patrol groups, each with more than 40 people, and each group was led by a superintendent.
As he sat down at the table with the rookie police officers, he immediately saw the trainee policewoman who had just tried to prank him, I think her name was Evelyn Hill, and the two of them stared at each other wide-eyed.
