Chapter 74 Preparations
After parting ways with Olivia and receiving the exact details of the assessment task, Victor left the academy and immediately began preparations.
Contrary to his initial expectations, Victor did not anticipate that his mission would be to explore the astral plane, which forced him to change many of his initial plans.
Because astral planes are all very unstable entities.
Putting aside the dangers and such, the different environments alone are troublesome.
Some astral planes have abundant natural vegetation and resources that are in no way inferior to those of the primary plane.
Some astral planes are extremely resource-scarce; not to mention food, some don't even have a source of drinkable water.
After inquiring with Olivia, Victor confirmed that the astral plane he was heading to was probably the latter, so it was clear that he would need to bring quite a lot of things this time.
Then even one space bag becomes insufficient.
First, I bought two more storage bags to store survival supplies, such as food, water, clothes, and tents. The more of these things, the better. Given the uncertainty of what might happen, these are essential items to carry, and the more you carry, the better.
Victor's backpack was used to store spare spell scrolls, as well as potions for healing injuries and restoring magic.
As for which spell scrolls and potions to buy, Victor had made some preparations. He still had enough magic stones on hand. After purchasing various alchemy instruments and potion refining equipment at home, he still had about seven thousand magic stones left.
He spent another 1000 magic stones to buy a space bag, and still had 600 magic stones left.
Therefore, Victor had ample funds to purchase sorcery scrolls and potions.
However, both spell scrolls and potions consume a lot of magic stones. If they are ineffective, it's fine, but if you want to buy powerful spell scrolls and potions, even if you spend all six thousand magic stones, you probably won't be able to buy much.
Victor must be selected based on reasonable price and effectiveness.
Fortunately, as things stand now, Morningstar City has no shortage of all kinds of potions and sorcery scrolls. Victor quickly decided on the potions he wanted to buy and placed an order directly: "Purification Potion", "Detoxification Potion", "Spring Water Potion", and "Troll Blood Potion".
The first three types of potions are functional: the "Purification Potion" can remove negative status effects and curses; the "Detoxification Potion," as the name suggests, is specifically designed to remove toxins; and the "Spring Water Potion" can accelerate the recovery of magic power.
As for the final "Troll Blood Potion," it is a potion that accelerates wound healing and enhances vitality.
These four potions alone cost Viktor another 1,600 magic stones... The most expensive of them all was the Purification Potion, which cost 800 magic stones for just one set. But Viktor had the money, so he bought it as a backup.
Although he spent a lot of magic stones, these potions were actually more valuable to Victor than he had imagined.
Because, unsurprisingly, in addition to the functions of these potions themselves, their equipment effects are also quite good:
[Pure potion]
[Equipment Effect: Resist Evil Iv1]
Increases your resistance to any negative status effect and provides a small chance of immunity to some minor negative effects.
[Condition for absorption: Maintain bodily purity until age 18]
Detoxifying Agent
[Equipment Effect: Immunity to All Poisons Iv1]
You are immune to all basic toxins and gain 100% additional basic resistance to extraordinary toxins.
[Conditions for consumption: Ingesting at least five different poisons]
[Spring Water Potion]
[Equipment Effect: Mana Fountain Iv1]
Every morning at 6:00 AM, you recover 33.3% of your maximum mana.
[Condition for Consumption: Equipping this potion will cumulatively restore 33% of your maximum mana.]
Troll Blood Potion
[Equipment Effect: Super Regeneration Iv1]
It can actively consume magic to quickly heal wounds on the body. [Conditions for consumption: Personally hunt down a troll and evenly smear the troll's blood on your chest]
These are the effects of these four potions when equipped in the equipment slot.
Unfortunately, the conditions for consuming the purifying potion are somewhat vague, and Victor cannot determine exactly what constitutes a pure body.
Is it physical? Or spiritual? Or something else entirely?
In short, Viktor is currently unable to complete the task, but the conditions for the other three devouring tasks are not difficult, so Viktor can complete the devouring tasks for all of them.
It's just that because there isn't enough time, the conditions for consuming the antidote and troll blood potions can't be met. Only the fountain potion can be completed while equipping it... but it doesn't really matter.
After all, he has now unlocked a new equipment slot, which gives him more room to maneuver.
Regardless of which potion's attribute is needed, equipping it directly will take effect; it doesn't necessarily need to be consumed to be useful... it just reduces some troublesome operations after consumption.
Preparations for the magic scrolls are relatively simple.
Viktor only needs to prepare a few spell scrolls to compensate for his own shortcomings... namely, the Invisibility Scroll for 400 magic stones, the Featherfall Scroll for 200 magic stones, and the Groll Lightning Scroll for 1200 magic stones.
Compared to potions, witchcraft scrolls are far too expensive.
Even though Victor had some savings, he didn't dare to spend recklessly and only bought three scrolls before stopping... Even so, he still felt a little heartache because the magic stones he spent on the scrolls could have lasted him for more than half a year if he had used them to buy alchemy materials and potion ingredients.
More importantly, while the attributes provided by spell scrolls are not bad, the conditions for absorbing them are far less simple than those provided by potions:
[Witchcraft Scroll - Invisibility]
[Equipment Effect: Master of Disguise Iv1]
All your disguise-type spells, or any disguise techniques you use, will be more vivid and less noticeable, increasing the disguise effect by 30%.
[Conditions for Devouring: Play an unfamiliar identity without being detected, and live there for at least one month]
[Witchcraft Scroll - Feather Fall Spell]
[Equipment Effect: Ace Combat Iv1]
Your airborne spells reduce your weight to near zero, and when both feet leave the ground simultaneously, you gain a 10% reduction in spell cooldown and a 10% bonus to mana regeneration.
[Condition for Devouring: Defeat an opponent by descending from the sky]
[Witchcraft Scroll - Groll's Lightning]
[Equipment Effect: Thunder King Iv1]
Your lightning-type spells gain a Mastery bonus, granting an additional 40% power.
[Conditions for Devouring: Learn at least six lightning-based spells and raise their proficiency to the Master level.]
Without exception, they are all types that cannot be completely devoured in a short period of time.
To be honest, Viktor was very envious of the effects of equipping each roll.
Given the outrageously expensive price of these scrolls, Victor figured he'd better use them sparingly so he could find an opportunity to devour them when he returned later... Otherwise, he'd have to spend thousands of magic stones to buy more scrolls, which he simply couldn't afford.
